How exactly did Israel get to be USA's "friend in the middle east"? I know it goes back to the cold war but I don't seem to be able to follow the accounts of how it happened.

im not exactly sure how israel is the enemy here
i think the enemy in that part of the world is the so called 'palestine'
Israel tried to get along but the arabs wouldnt have any of it
