Another one is pop-up stopper.
I just got it off of kazaa. All you have to do is install it and enable it and it stops all pop-ups except for those java ones which i don't think there is any program that stops those right now. There aren't that many of those anyways.
But so far pop-up stopper works great for me.
Just search for it on a p2p program.

i use popup stopper companion, it does a pretty good job, i hardly see any popups...and most of the time when there IS supposed to be a popup, it will let it through, if not...all you have to do is hold the control key and it will let it through.

I also use Pop-Up Stopper, and I also got it off Kazaa. Haven't had a pop up since, even those java ones.

I second ccsdude. Use Mozilla for web browsing and you won't see popups. After you install it you have to tell it not to open unrequested windows in the preferences before it will work though.

I use zonealarm pro for my firewall and that blocks banner ads if you tell it too.

The pop-up stopper from panicware doesn't even stop all the pop-ups at this silly site

Well, you may be getting more ads than intended by the websites you visit, it may be caused by spyware

I would recommend running a program like Spybot S&D (http://security.kolla.de) or Ad Aware (http://www.lavasoft.de) and see if it removes anything giving you popups

My favorite pop up blocker is The Proxomitron (http://www.proxomitron.org) , it takes some configuring, but its worth it in the end, it runs your net through a "proxy" on your computer and catches anything connected to the net, it stopped things in kazaa (before I had kazaa lite) even!

they still pop up. but are blank.

also great for stopping any sort of annoying ad.

like those here on zeropaid.
The problem with the host file, is its harder to bypass when surfing, and it slows my connection to a crawl

I use adshield at www.adshield.org. It is by far the best ad/pop-up killer I have ever used.

you have two choices:
1 Mozilla (or Phoenix) browser
2 Opera browser

I use Opera

Get the lastest 1.4alpha version of Mozilla or just try the latest nightly CVS version of Phoenix. Popup Blocking has been tuned even better in this version.

Mozilla is one of the best choices. It can be configured to disable popups only upon loading, so links that open in a new window (target=_blank) work correctly. My school has Popup Blocker Installed and its quite annoying to have to hold Control whenever I'm clicking one of these links.

Regarding the host file, the slowdown occurs because Internet Explorer attempts to connect to localhost, and waits for a connection to be established but one won't ever be. eDexter (http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/eDexter.html) can help with this - it runs a local web server that returns a blank image all the time.

Hope this helps,

I have PopUpCop. It's a full version, we paid for it, but TRUST ME it's WORTH it. It stops ALL popups, and you can set it to block cookies, mouse tricks, and other scripting annoyances. It's very customizeable and we have had NO problems with it.

I think popups are wrong. They suck up bandwidth and RAM that YOU have paid for, and they interfere with your usage of the net, and the web sites you want to view. (It's like telemarketers calling you at home--taking advantage of a service and convenience--the phone line--that you are paying for). I understand that web sites take money and they need to at least recover what they've spent to host it, but they need to find something else. Flashy banner ads are just as annoying and eventually, someone'll find something to block them, too, if that hasn't happened already.

Agnitum's Outpost firewall, gets rid of popups and also activex and javascript based ads.

You can disable javascript and or activex per website if you want to use it for some, but not all sites you visit.

I got it as a firewall and afterwords realized I did not need any other app or utility to block ads.
oh yeah and it's freeware.
