:devil OK I've used Outlook and Outlook Express for years now and had been quite pleased with them until recently. When I compose email they are usually quite large and lately I've had problems with the client crashing and thus having to retype my emails over several times. What I'm looking for basically is a replacement for Outlook with roughly the same features as Outlook with maybe a little more emphasis on security. I've heard of various programs like Eudora, Pegasus, and The Bat and was wondering what users here would reccomend. Thanks for your help everyone.....

My favorite email client is TheBat!

It is shareware however and if you don't want to hassle with that or snag a cracked version.

I'd recommend Calypso as it has IMAP support and many freeware email apps don't.

Also Foxmail can access hotmail accounts as if it is on a pop server.

There is also a freeware version of eudora , it serves up ads in a little box on the side.

I used to used eudora ,then calypso and now thebat.

peace

The last time this question came up the Bat won the poll

and web-based mail like yahoo won the debate

:devil Thanks Rickio. I will give it a try. If I like it I'll probably buy the license for it. I don't mind downloading music because it really doesn't affect the artists as much as it does the lawyers and the industry fatcats but if software is good I'd rather pay a license fee to support them because smaller software companies depend on them for their bread and butter and usually have no way to offset those kind of losses.

Oh no, I'm eagerly waiting to see if there are any new ideas too, I just thought you would like to see the last pass. There are plenty of loose cannons wandering round lately with 20 or 30 posts who know everything and I'm hoping some of them will share things we ain't heard before.

I've looked around quite a bit, but I've never found anything quite as good as TheBat!. Supposedly Mozilla Mail is pretty good, but I've had nothing but trouble with Mozilla's mail client in the past.

Here's a link to FoxMail
http://www.webattack.com/get/foxmail.shtml
It seems pretty spiffy, does allow non-dangerous HTML, and listen to this it has its own SMTP server built-in! Meaning you don't go through your ISP's !!!

I heard of this one the other day. Haven't had a chance to try it out or find out a whole lot yet. Has anyone tried it?!?!

I have, and use it. What it looks like is a bloated outlook. It has a lot of fun things like voice mail, and pretty features. If anyone is on phone lines I think it would slow things down a lot. Ch i will send you some mail using it now, so you can see.

Eudora had been around awhile, and is still good and secure, but the free version places a small logo in the program. I like Mozilla's built in e-mail personally.

CHorse this incredimail looks like it's just FX. It doesn't seem to do anything you couldn't do in Outlook if you wanted to go to the trouble of working out how, but it does it for you right off the top. Unless their client is really fast or something I think they would have been better off just making an Outlook plug-in. (Geez I wonder if that's what this is?)

That is what I think it is, but I am not as well versed as most of you in this stuff. Plus it makes your mail awful big.

Hunter - Do you use this in addition to to outlook? or is it a plugin? Do ya like it?...and no mail yet.

The Hunter

It is separate from outlook, and it is nice, but it can slow your friends down if they are on 56K. Also I will PM you with the add I used.

Ok Incredimail is a real client, it actually lacks much of the rich features like decent templates and strong filtering, doesn't handle a large volume well and makes significantly larger emails. On the good side it is fun! and wacky! and that's about it. Like if you wanted to stick a bunch of smilies and pulsating fingers in your mail, or make it play sounds or songs or whatever, you are 2 clicks away! There is also lots of made-up fonts for it, you could make up several of your own if you really cared to. Sort of thing that would make a good present for a kid.

Here is a whole list of fun! email clients

Also you can right click on a pic or a animation and add it as a background. CH is still being sick after hearing my voice.

Two of my boys are wanting their own e-mail program. This might be just what they would want.

If you have the bandwidth for the size of the pics kids, and adults send it can be a lot of fun. Did you get Taz?

*giggles*
CHorse does he sound like the Mackenzie brothers?
"Beauty way to go eh?"

Yeah I bet they will get a kick out of it. I just made sort of a mobile dance-hall kind of a thing and sent it off to someone, there's even a gunfight! huge mail tho

:devil Thanks all for the suggestions. A bouncing frog for all of y'all :fire . I had friends who tried incredimail before and they claim it has spyware in it. Don't know how true that is as I've never used it before but just a warning.

The Hunter

I have never had a problem with spyware with it, and i have checked it.

No no spyware I'm watching the port activity.

Ddandelion I can't duplicate this with the stationary coming as an attachment, were you using incredimail to receive it or did you read it in something else?

BTW did I mention that FoxMail (http://www.webattack.com/get/foxmail.shtml ) has its own built-in SMTP server? Just don't want that getting lost in the hubbub about fun, also I was thinking Now that would be the way to do some spyware right there, if you took over a protocol for someone like that. (Not saying that about FoxMail, just an idea.)

Foxmail is a very cool little email client. It's surprisingly good actually. I would say it's just about as good as TheBat!, except for it has no IMAP support, but many people don't even use impap, so then it is good enough for most people.

Was wondering why there was a few posts about finding foxmail. I had the url right in my first post here lol

peace

:devil Well gang after trying out all the suggestions I decided on Foxmail. I really like the layout and ease of use and transferring my settings was smooth and took little time. What a nice client for free. It really surprised me. Thanks everybody for the help:cross
