I saw your other replies in the other LeechHammer thread.. so I know what you are talking about grab...

What grab doesnt get is that LeecHammer will hammer him if no one downloads his crap files in a certain amount of time, which kinda helps with that but by no means stops the leechers

I am led to believe that leechhammer only hammers "suspicious" user after a certain amout of time. i.e users who have at least 500 files and never upload. I only have a few files so dont qualify as a "suspicious user"

Mel_Smiley
March 29th, 2003, 06:20 PM
Point taken. Didnt know the suspicious point is 500, which seems odd to me anyway and the issue should be looked into

anymore pics?

What I want to know is how are these judgements made, as I have used Win Mx for quite a while, and am sharing over 4gig of songs. I hardly ever download anything these days. Tonight I am getting booted on a regular basis, while sharing 7 slots, with a 15k upload set. This was a small share as I was working on a request for a few songs. If this is caused by being hammered i will be leaving the program very shortly.

Mel_Smiley

I dont think you would ever be hammered sharing 4 gigs of music. You can set your own prefered number of files shared a user must have before they get hammered. More than likely your having just a bad night like i am it seems, it has taken forever to even find sources for my ques. Maybe i should result to begging like everyone else! lol

I am not using hammer, just Win Mx, and sharing. What I am seeing is most of my downloads being killed. i have never had to resort to tools like that. If it is caused by the fact that at times I am not sharing rap, or nipple slip, i am not impressed. Is this controlled by the the # of active uploads? As sometimes I have few hits, and other times many. I have always preached sharing.

well Hunter the ugly fact is alot of people do play que god with winmx just because thay can see who wants something from them, so alot of bartering goes on and ques get bumped or cancled. sucks. If your using a secondary connection your name might be changing alot causing your ques to fail. sucks. Hey did I mention i love Winmx!!??

The Hunter
March 29th, 2003, 07:27 PM
I have been using the program for a long time, and I never worried about mp3s, just movies. Secondary connection is the recommended way for me to connect, and i have never had a problem with the connection. Back when Caitlyn Marble was here we both used the program, and started a help thread about Win Mx.

Well maybe its just a bad night, I dunno. I did finaly finish a movie ive been dl'n for a month at least just a few moments ago, so im off for a bit

The Hunter
March 29th, 2003, 07:51 PM
I hope that is all it is, as when I see a lot of people on actual phone lines, I add more users to use up more bandwidth. When I have a user on high speed that is close to finishing a file I just boost them up, while cranking up my bandwidth so the others dont loose any speed. Ask Krell he has seen my speed, and I am not greedy. I love to up load.

Leechers suck and give P2P a bad name. And I keep seeing this "its unfair to cancel leechers specially if they are new to P2P".Thats no excuss if noobs arent smart enough to rip a few of their own cds to share with all these easy to use ripping tools they have no reason to even be on a P2P.

hey, Hunter.
i'm wondering if this has to do with the MXMonitor.
vladd was talking in the winmx area and i was informed that a user can designate, now, not only how many files, but another users speed.
i'm 56k and have gotten the boot.
i wonder what other conditions this mxmonitor can boot u for?
this app sounds exactly like what the creator of leechammer, was trying not to do....allow people to hammer for any ol' reason, so as to have an empty queue....so that their own files go faster.
anyhoo.....just an idea.

My LeecHammer stats.

I am DSL.
Run as a Primary.
Share MP3s only.
3100 files shared.

I observe that :
Leeches rarely complain about being hit - they know they're out of order.
Queue hogs nearly always complain. They just want want want, now now now! I think most of them still live with their mothers, and are used to being cossetted.
Real Newbies are easy to spot, and I give them some consideration. False newbies are just as easy to spot if you happen to be at the PC. They get nothing. (False newbies demonstrate remarkable familiarity with the messaging and queuing and option-setting features)

Amusing moment :
a zero-file hacker PM'ing me to ask if I'd start up his 10-file queue entry, while his queue read "62 queued, 0 of 0 available"

Particularly irritating :
European users (I'm in the UK) who queue up to load popular current English-language music (I have kids) while sharing 25 German or Italian or French-language files, with (surprisingly) no active uploads.
Also,
Users who put you on Ignore as soon as they start to DL from you, to prevent you attempting reciprocity.

LeecHammer has its limitations, and the memory-leak is a nuisance, but it will only be bettered if Frontcode incorporate the features into the client software. I think Dean at Smartgamez has done an excellent job, approaching the problems with intelligence and restraint (too much restraint in some of the limits he has set, but there ya go). I notice more and more people using it, so it seems to be the way forward.

Aren't we due a new version of WinMx soon??

Left it for a bit, to see how big it would get...

limit: 5, 10, Generous limit 1500+
Normal sharer = 4 files: Generous 10

Hmm. Mine might be worst than most mathematically, but as I share many 100-800 MB files, I think that most of my downloaders may as well.

It's just a shame that the program can't judge the QUALITY of shared files. I mean, I'd give someone my whole queue if I could get a single extra-rare anime from him, but guys who share oodles of crappy boy-bands can kiss my ass.

I also wish there was a way to make sure that people were SHARING THEIR FUCKING DOWNLOAD DIRECTORIES. Maybe have LH automatically check to see if the file they were downloading from you was available for download from them...

Seems like the average files shared seems to be 300-400.

What annoys me is people who share 200 noname txt/wav files backed up with 3 or so incomplete movie files to bulk up the size.

I still browse their folders because some smart ones seem to change their names.

Ken17625
May 19th, 2003, 03:39 PM
Because people will generally want more than they get, and the fact that people who use WinMX are twice as suspicious and vigilant of other users and what they have or participating with, it will never be as good as other networks.

But don't fret, it still beats the pants off of Gnutella!! WooHoo!

Mel_Smiley
May 20th, 2003, 02:44 AM
Yeh I can agree with some of that Ken. Winmx users a different animals altogether, thus making the network what it is

edit; also Ive stopped using leechammer as I've had a change of heart! lol
