Spyware Free?

I'm new to this forum so bear with me. I'm about to give one of my kids a new computer and I'd like him to install a file sharing program that both meets his needs for wide selection and my desire to make sure no spyware gets installed. Does such a program exist? Thanks, Tony

Many many such programs exist. I recommend Shareaza (http://www.zeropaid.com/shareaza/) but that doesn't mean you shouldn't listen to the people who recommend eMule or Direct Connect. If you want something just like Kazaa only without the spyware, the k-lite and k++ developers haunt this place as well.

Kazaa lite, its kazaa, without the spyware, and with lots of features that aren't in any version of kazaa, www.k-lite.tk

WinMX, connects to its own network, and can connect to the old opennap (napster like) servers, its also spyware free, www.winmx.com

I agree, and the Kazaa name is very popular with kids too. It also has a password protected family filtre to block offensive material, like porn, if that is an issue.

k-lite and winmx should be good enough for you to begin with. If you begin to become interested in larger files, example full albums..then emule might be next but it is not as easy or fast as k-lite or winmx.

just browse this forum and keep asking questions. plenty of people here can help you.

emule is for a more experienced and patient person with broadband who wants quailty over quantity.

There are many good filesharing programs out there that are spyware free but if you still have doubts I suggest running something like Spybot (http://security.kolla.de/) or Adaware (http://www.lavasoft.de/) to be sure you dont have any spyware added to your computer.

Like many people have posted, I would reccomend Winmx or KaZaA Lite K++ Edition. This is down to the sheer number of users, especially KaZaA Lite. Usually there is about 4 million users on at the same time on KaZaA, but also on WinMX theres nearly the same amount. KaZaA Lite has no spyware, adware or anything else. Neither does WinMX. If you want a nice looking application go for KaZaA Lite as WinMX isnt the prettiest program i've seen. There is hardly any queues on KaZaA Lite whereas WinMX is the opposite, unless you get QuickMX ( add-on for WinMX ). But this means there is more viruses and trojans to catch through KaZaA if there is more users. Also the RIAA like to catch people using KaZaA Lite but on WinMX there have been no reports of people recieving messages from the authorities. I hope this helps you and your kids find a good program. k-lite is spyware free. k-lite is easy. k-lite is fast. k-lite has lots of users. k-lite has almost no quenes.
