The answer is yes, just reinstall, and most of the time, you never need the CD to begin with. If you ever reload yor O/S, dont you use it.

Most of those CDs-that-came-with-it things will kill all the files on the drive you restore it to. Like if you have shared files on your C: drive and you put in an eMachines or a Dell or a Compaq "original installation" disk they would disappear, if you ever did have to use the thing you should save off anything you value somewhere else.
I think krell is suggesting you go somewhere like netscape.com or msn.com or opera.com and download and install from there without reference to your deadly CD at all.
PS: if and only if your CD is a standard Windows disk than you can use your control panel to install and uninstall components from it.

You use AOL just to browse right? I mean, you're not using the ISP provided by AOL? Because that would be stupid (IMO) because your high speed is more expensive and faster, you might as well use it. If it's just a browser you need, you still have internet explorer built in, and that's as good as any browser out there.

as far as i know, its not actually possible to use aol without being connected to it, as everything is grayed-out until you sign on.

Not completely true, I've signed on to AOL on my dads computer with our high speed internet, you just have to set how it connects, switch from the modem to your lan
I think there is a smaller fee that you pay, so that you can use their mail/browser and keep your current ISP

Lets ask this, which browser icon did you delete? You're using AOL you said, but it sounds like you deleted another browser "shortcut", which one?

Theres an option to restore all default icons...IE comes back once you do that...
Download this program and find the option to restore desktop icons.

Please let me clarify, there dosnt need to be any further discussion of this, its solved.
Many ISPs that provide DSL etc, make a CD that will create a chortcut, and a network connection preconfigured. This is 100% un-neccessary, but it lets dumb-assed installation guys get in and out quick.
When you click the desktop shortcut, a browser with the ISP connection dialogue is launched.
He reinstalled the shitty ISP CD software, and he is up and running.
