Hi. A few days ago I tried to burn some of my mp3 collection down to cds and my adaptic software told me to insert a cd with sufficent disk space on it. The cdr that I was using had just been unwrapped from the shipping plastic. Well today I tried to use it as a regular cd drive and it refuses to recongize any audio or software in that drive. When I go to system properties it tells me the device is working properly. I have two cdroms on my computer one is a dvd/cd and the other is a cdr/rw drive.

Anyway is there anyway to fix this problem without going out and buying a new cdr drive? I also have a laptop xp that is not connected online yet that has a cdr burner on it. I guess I could transfer the mp3's onto it but what would be the easiest way to do that?

My specs if needed are:
ME computer
Compac Presario series 5000
cd burner: philips cdd 4801cdr-rw
Bought 5/28/01

If you need anymore info please let me know.
Thank you for your help

Sounds like the drive is knackered, if the cable had come unplugged inside the puter it would not be detected.
You won't be able to fix it yourself, or even get it back together if you take it apart.

Swapping it for someone elses CDR in the middle of the night would be naughty. I think you will have to buy one.

If you desktop and your laptop have network ports the easiest way would be to buy a crossover cable and configure the networking.

The last time I remember using it was when I ripped a couple of cds to my music folder. I wonder if that screwed it up one way or another. Anyway I plan on creating a Home network between my laptop and desktop so I won't need to buy another cdrw drive since the laptop already has one. And if I have to I won't buy another compaq when I bought this one I had to send an email to the tech people on how to unlock my word graphics that were hidden in my D:\ drive. Real nice of them.
