Are we talking about DivX type avi files or uncompressed raw avi files here?
The DivX -type avi files have lots of potential. When encoded properly, the format offers excellent quality for the compression. On the down side, there really needs to be a SINGLE standardized codec.
Spending hours or days downloading a file sux bad enough as it is. But then you have to determine what codec was used...hope that you already have it installed, hunt it down if you don't have it, install it, tweak it, troubleshoot it, etc.
It's not worth the trouble to me. I'd rather just buy the video or DVD.
Now on the other hand if we are talking about the uncompressed Microsoft avi video...good quality, universally standard, but the files are waaaay too large to be worthwhile.

AVIpreview solves those problems, it does what it says, allows you to preview files so you can spot fakes before you've fully downloded them.

LOL, only someone using a Mac would say that. I don't mean to flame, and I'm all for Macs, Apple does great stuff, but I've never gotten a single avi movie to play on my friend's G4, I never really tried that hard, but seriously, Apple = Quicktime, Quicktime = Apple, it'll be that way for a long time. And AVI does not = Quicktime, Quicktime hates them.
Maybe with Windows Media Player it would work, but good luck getting a xvid or even divx decompressor for WMP for Mac.
