Hello, please click EDIT then remove the group name from your post, thx.

I have had that sort of problem before, I closed Winmx, opened the Library.dat file in notepad, then gutted it, and saved it again.

Then launched Winmx and rebrowsed to my shared and downloaded file folder. This rebuilt my library.

first of all, you shouldn't list names of files here. the band you speak of is not relevant to your problem, so maybe you should edit that out.

as for your problem, im not too familiar with winmx, but i would assume that there is also a browse for files feature, like in kazaa. if there is, just use that to ad the folder in which the files reside.

sheesh... krell's all over it... :P

t81_ " just to give you an idea. What the heck is that?

Hi gary326

Yes, its data, code, that you are gutting, so empty it all out, select all, then delete, then SAVE so that the dat file is still there but blank, empty. Try it.

OK, let me clarify this, the situation is this

a) you have a folder(s) that you share out.

b) in Winmx, under the Shared , you browse to that folder)s) and then Winmx populates, showing the total number of files, and the volume of them

c) When this happens, most of your files show up there, but the ones that you downloaded from the other site, do not, and they are the ONLY ones that do not

d) After having emptied the dat file, and relaunched Winmx, and repolulated the SHARED files, they still do not show up

e) you are 100% certain, that you have those files, in the same exact folder that you are browsing to in Winmx.

Examine each one of these as either TRUE or FALSE.

If they are all true, then tell me, if any one of them are FALSE, then address that specifically. Also, rename the files by adding something to the name, like A B C D E F at the beginning, so that theres NO way you will mistake them or miss them.

Make a new folder on your drive. Call it "other downloads"

Move the files to that folder, then right click them, make sure they are not marked as hidden, not that I think they really are mind you.

Rename them as prescribed.

Relaunch Winmx, then ADD that new folder to your shared files.

Now you should see the shared files as sometihg like

D:\other downloads\ A B C D E Funky Music.mp3

If you can not identify them at that point, hells bells, I dunno.

Thank for being a sport about it all, I had to try to rule out human error in this.

If you still have those songs in your recycle bin, I would like to have them.

If you can reclaim them, PM me, if you can send me at least one of them, I want to examine them. Perhaps this is a copywrite protection scheme.

thx.

I find that when I want to share a new folder, the thing that I do first is remove all the current folders I am sharing.

Next I then reset the path for all the folders I am going to share on winmx one by one. Usually it will show them as being shared.

damn maybe those mp3s u had though for some reason wouldnt take at all.
I to would like to know more about what comes of this especially being that I do know winmx does not limit any type of file you can share.

I dont know whether to laugh, or to beat my head against a wall.

I went to the site. I downloaded the zip files. I moved them to the PC where I still have Winmx installed. I unzipped them in to a folder. Then . . . the HORROR.

They are NOT Mp3s !

They are wma files. All of them. *sigh*

You cant share files in the wma format, due to DRM.

"- Strict WMA usage
WMA is strict on copyrighted materials. After copying
your audio CD into WMA files, you cannot share it with
others but yourself and your own portable WMA/MP3
players. When you copy a licensed WMA file to your
device, the license goes with it, which allows you
to play the file. Subsequent copying will not transfer
the license over, which renders the file useless outside
of it's "home area". You can also turn the licensing
off, but if the portable device's manufacturer decided
to comply with SMDI heavily, it may not even play WMA
files without a license - even if it doesn't require
one. That's a pretty big gamble if you want to use
WMA as your sole music file format."

How do they keep a person from converting them into a friendlier format?
