:shy I have always found band list to be interesting. Your personal list tells a lot about you. I really miss the pages of lists from the napster days. You can get some of the same from WinMX and others. Why not add your list and show the world just how diverse we are.

Meat Puppets-a Arizona band that started at the begining of punk (mid-80's). While they were fast and wild they had a real country side and made some great folky/cowpunk music. In the early 90's they signed with London Records and have put out some real rockers. Check out "Swimming Ground" old and "Roof with a hole" newer to see there range.
Robert Mirabal is from Albquerque and is simply great live. He has a video called "Music from a Painted Cave" that might be the greatest Native American video to date. Crazy Horse add some song titles so people can check him out.
Musicman post your list of mainstream, it's ok. If you think the lists are wild now wait til we get some german metal lists, French pop bands. I would love to see a "drums and bass" list.
Everyone is welcome to post here

Interesting thread. I just happened upon this, while doing a browse of Crazy Horse's profile. ;)
My own musical preferences include, but are not limited too;
Jethro Tull- I have seen Tull in concert 9 times over the years. first was 1973.
YES- 8 or 9 times in concert over the years.
The Electric Light Orchestra- 2 times in concert
Pink Floyd- saw them at Cleveland in 1977
Led Zepplin- Saw once in concert, 1976
The Moody Blues- for me, one of the best groups of all, in SO many ways. Deep, thoughtful music.
Bob Welch- ex-Fleetwood Mac-er saw in concernt once. Love his voice and his songs
Fleetwood Mac- saw in concert twice
Ambrosia- what can I say, I LOVE this group, especially their first two albums. Saw them in concert once, in 1975.
Kitaro- probably the most spiritual musician I have ever heard, wonderful electronic music. Saw in concert once in 1989 or 1990, durung Kojiki tour.
Todd Rundgren-Utopia- saw once in concert. What a wizard, what a Star
Tangerine Dream- mind blowing
Klaus Shulze- see above
Depeche Mode
The Smiths- a bit depressing at times, but enjoyable ;)
Enigma
Jon-Michael Jarre - this guy is PURE talent
John Lennon- I still mourn his death 22 years later. I love this man. One of the greatest musiacal geniuses whom ever lived.
Jon Anderson (of Yes)- wonderful voice and talent. Deeply spiritual music for the most part.
Ian Anderson (of Jethro Tull)- one of the most powerful onstage performers I have ever seen. Wonderful voice, lyrics can be a bit strange at times though ;)
Barry Manilow- did I type that? He has his place ;)
Lynard Skynard- Simple Man, Free Bird, Tuesdays Gone, etc., great music, great band.
The Cranberries- now this is a more recent band, that I REALLY like. I have two of their concert videos, almost all of their songs are EXCELLENT.
The Beatles- who does not like them? I saw them live on Ed Sullivan, when I was in second grade.
Ringo Starr- I really enjoy much of his music, especially his first few solo albums from the early 70's
George Harrison- wonderful talent, great man. RIP my brother. Much of his solo work is wonderful, as well.
The Monkees- what can I say? I am a child of the 60's, and for a few years from about 1965-69, I liked the Monkees more than the Beatles. many of their tunes were and still are, EXCELLENT, in my opiniom, and it turns out that Carole King, Neil Diamond, and a few others, wrote most of their best hits.
I enjoy all of their old hits, to this very day.
Neil Young- has a voice of his own. Loved his Imagine tribute for the 9-11 tradegy.
Hermains Hermits
ASIA- what an excellent "supergroup" while they lasted.
Jeff Lynne- main man behind ELO, pure genius. Great voice and talent, and I used to resemble him at one time when I had longer hair and a fro. :)
Cusco- got turned onto them from the Art Bell radio show a few years back. Great music, especially Ghost Dance.
Cat Stevens- what a talent, what a voice. Too bad he took to the Islamic faith so seriously.
Stevie Nicks- what a babe ;)
Bobby Goldsboro- Honey, what a song
The Association- easy on my ears
Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music- some great talent there
BTO- Bauchman Turner Overdrive- had a few great songs
Bob and Tom for comedy, especially Mr. Obvious.
George Carlin for comedy, as well- saw in concert- 1975
Bill Withers- great songs
The Bee Gees- they truly have several classics.
Alan Parsons Project- music from various artists, produced by a genius.
The Doors- my fire was lit back in about 1967
Adam Ant- Interesting stuff
Alice Cooper- Welcome to my Nightmare.
Andreas Vollenweider
Billy Idol- he has his place, and has some good tunes.
Blonde
The Carpenters- Karen's voice, was one of the best. Too bad it was silenced so early.
Charlie Daniels
Cheech and Chong- great comedy
Chicago- they can color my world, anytime
Chris Squire (bassist of Yes)- his first solo album, Fish out of Water, 1975, was superb.
Christopher Cross- who can forget Sailing?
Donna Sommers- Disco had it's place ;)
Dr. Hook- I like many of his older tunes
Duran Duran- one of the best from the 1980's
David Bowie
Emerson Lake and Palmer
Enya- what interesting music she offers
Frank Zappa- what a pervert, RIP, saw in concert 1975
Frankie Valle and the Four Seasons
Genesis/Phil Collins
Gerry Rafferty- Right Down the line. Wonderful vocalists.
Steve Miller Band- excellent
Glenn Cambell- many great songs
Hall and Oates
Herb Alber/Tijuana Brass- who can forget the lonely bull?
John Tesh
Jose Feliciano
Judy Collins- voice of an angel
WAR- my first concert, in 1972
Kenny G
Joan Baez- especially Diamonds and Rust, another Angel
Klaatu- Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft
Kraftwerk- need I say more?
Kylie Minogue- one babe who is really hot right now. ;) She has my attention.
Lou Christie
Mike Odfield
Orchestra/Orkestra

Paul Reverre and the Raiders
Pet Shop Boys
Peter Gabriel
Peter Paul and mary
Mamas and the Poppas

Almost 600 views of this thread! And we were moved for some reason from mp3's to cover art? Nonetheless some good resent posts with some nice additions. To add some info;
Steve Hillage started as a solo prog/psy artist and had an impressive string of lp's (yes kids vinyl). His version of "It's all too much" is super as lp's L, Fish Rising, Open... He then worked on two solo eletronic/rock lp's that are classic; Clearlight Symphony, with french keyboard artist,Cyrille Verdeaux and "Khan, space shanty" with underground superstar Dave Steward. He then moved on to planet, "GonG" and made some of the most inspired 70's psyotrophic guitar music. Now he is ten years into the his new project, System 7. Eletro groove with treated guitars and 160 plus beats. A very d/l able project for anyone that remembers music befor the 80's. Check out the site at <http:www.a-wave.com/system7/ > seven cd's
For anyone that followed the canterbury sound there is a site that has it all-Gong,Caravan,Egg, Camel, hatfield and the north, all the way to the art bears. take a look at <http.www.perso.club-internet.fr/calyx/>
OK so summer is here and it's hot so it's time for my surf list. To begin with the Beach Boys killed surf with the vocals, they will never be on my list. If you like the BB try Pennywise, there version of "I get around" is postpunk. There are three periods of surf music; the original, the 80's revival, and modern surf.
Dick Dale-the king of the surf guitar
Davie Allan(and the Arrows) the evil side of surf(motercycle music)
The Lively Ones
Surfaris
The Challengers
Bobby Fuller Four
The Ventures
all versions of Pipeline, Wipeout, Apache and Church Key
modern

Insect Surfers
Tikimen
Halibuts-best surf horns ever

Los Straitjackets(the former Raybeats)

I agree in regards to beach boys, but not totally. They were actually considered the beatles biggest compeition at one time.
When they relieased Good Vibrations it was said it blew John Lennon's mind. They really did herald the dawing pyschedelic age with that song. They also did make a few albums which I do like, namely Holland and Surf's Up. both made at the end of their creative careers, as of course like many bands, they did or do limp on.
What do you all think to be the ultimate Psychedelic song or music?
There are plenty of bands which are considered such but I am asking just for individual tunes.
I place The Beatles - Tomorrow never Knows up there.
A few noteable tunes are
Chambers Brothers - Time has come today.
Clealight - With all in mind
Jimi Hendrix - Third Stone from the Sun
Well I figure it all has to do with what folks consider Pyschdelic
Let's just say there are mystic overtones in true Psychedelic Music...

Hello Everyone, this is VxLeSTaTxV. I haven't posted here before, but i noticed the thread, and practically none of my favorite Artists were listed.
Aside from Stereolab.
Has anyone here listened to DJ Z-Trip before. He's fantastic, and will flip you out of your chair listening to his performance. If you think that all DJ's sound the same, and there is no spark in the profession to make you give a damn, then i urge you to listen to some of his outstanding work. It is truly amazing, and I'm sure you will pass the good tunes to others, as i am doing now.
http://forums.djztrip.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=524 .
If you, like alot of people have been waiting for an artist to come out of this stagnant state of music, then listen to this person. This is the future of DJing, and it is universal. There is no one style of music. Z-Trip plays it all, and I guarantee will surprise you with his genre skipping. It is to say the least, very inspiring. =)
Z-Trip isn't like your normal DJ, mixing from track to track, and sometimes doing a scratch that you have heard a thousand times. He has come up with several routines, and each contains so many live remixes where he takes a song you heard a long time ago, and puts a whole new spin on it! All of you Baby Boomers will be very pleased, as Z-Trip loves to remix the classics. I don't want to spoil any of his remixes, so I wont. Let me just say that, if you like music, and would like to hear something phenominal, then check him out. Visit the link i posted, and Download away. I reccomend his work with DJ P if you have absolutely never heard of him. "Uneasy Listening Vol 1," is the title of the CD.

The more lists the better. My head is spining at a mix of Billy Ray Cyrus and the insane clown posse!!! Looked up the DJ Z-trip link but could not get a download. Is there a trick?
VxLeSTatxv or others could you give some of us elders a rundown on these guys with DJ in frount of their names. Are they just mixers or musicians? I found over 250 hits on DJ Z-trip on Winmx so there is something going on that is not on my radar. Also a definition of "trance hop" "jungle" "house" "techno" and any other raving sub catagories would be sweet.
As for the Tragicly Hip, they have never been on my fav list mostly because they have about a million songs and the ones that i have heard just have not grabed me but thanks for the heads up. Give us a few Blue Rodeo songs
I am stumped by Earshot. Who or what are they?
Keep those lists coming. Good to see Bela Fleck show up there are not that many great jazz banjo players(+he is much more). I don't know if it is really fair to just say "here is my list___30 gigs of everything". Give us some clues. How about some German bands/French Pop/ or Russian metal!!!!???!!!
Peace roger

Is anyone here interested in the idea of sharing with each other via has file links?
Shareaza and edonkey support hasfile links and it could be a cool way to learn about new music with each other.
I am still waiting to hear from Jorge if we can do this. But even if we can't do it here I can let you all know places we can post links and share with each other.
Or any other variations on this idea?

You may be confused about the difference between a DJ, and a Producer.
The traditional DJ takes the beginning of one track, and blends it into the end of another, creating a seamless mix.
The Producer creates the genre, and beat.
Then there's Z-Trip. He is changing the face of DJing as we speak. His style is Maverick to anyone else. His talent is top notch. Allow me to explain.
Z-Trip has come along, and shattered the barriers of DJing. Before, Dj's had one style of music that they played. Generally one genre dominated the whole set. This made for very repetitive DJ sets. Z-Trip changed that, and came up with an idea. Why not mix everything together, Live? After that, Z-Trip, Radar, and Emile started what was the greatest DJ team ever; The Bombshelter DJ's. They mixed everything together, and with no regard to what people thought. Some people got it, and others did not. The beauty of their combined talent was that they were performing this feat, LIVE. There weren't any machines playing the beats, they were the machines. When you hear the work that Z-Trip does, you say to yourself; "this isn't live". Well it most definitely is. It really is amazing how talented some people can be, and Z-Trip is one of them! I do not want to spoil any of his work for you, so i wont. I stumbled onto Z-Trip, and i find that surprises of self discovery work best.

Have you checked out Z-Trip's work?
He remixes Pharcydes "Passin me by", fused with Pat Benatars "Love is a battlefield". Just when you think the remix can't get any more dope Z drops Aphrodites "Rincing Quince (slider mix)," and gets you lifted! It's amazing!
Also, Radioheads "Reasonable man," with Ton-Locs "Wild Thing"!
Jay-Z's "H to the Izzo" with Janes Addictions "Jane says".
I could go on, but i dont want to spoil the best remixes.
When i say fuse, you may get the wrong idea. By fusing I mean he is taking two tracks, and playing them as one to create a new song. Its incredible the first time you hear them! It's almost as if Z makes you listen to the track in a whole new perspective, and state of mind. He really is uncanny, and you will hear about him sooner or later!

VxLeSTaTxv we are trying to get caught up and certainly the Imperial Funk has added some mystery to the thread. I have to admit that I am really enjoying the few DJ Z-trip mp3's that I have captured so far. I am finding more and more -acid jazz-jungle-techno-music showing up on my MMjukebox. I am an old fan of electronic music and collected with interest bands like Can, Faust, Neu, Kraftwork, Oldfield, Jean Michel Jarre and even Tonto's Expanding Headband and Klause Schulz. Somewhere in there everything got dumped into "new age" along with lots of flute music and downbeat jazz. I new that the new players were somewhere but where? Well here they are. thanks.
thanks to all that have made this thread as interesting as it is. Lets keep it going. Remember showing your band list is like showing a really cool tatoo (or an old scar). thanks roger d

Now that you are listening to more electronic beats, i wanted to share with you, and anyone else, some more good music.
Tokyo Dawn Records (http://www.tokyodawn.org/).
I've been hip to these cats since their glory days at MP3.com . Very laid back, chill, and sometimes ambient "Jazz". Check out La Shawn's most recent EP (http://www.tokyodawn.org/php/audiodetail.php?id=106&b1=l&mode=tdr). It is a golden peice of work by this great artist, and it will only take you one listen to justify. Very apparent Jazz influences run through out the EP.
Perhaps the greatest fact about the Tokyo Dawn Netlabel is that they're a Free Netlabel. All of their work is free for D/L. The software they use to make the beats is free too. Every Artist is involved with their community. It's very nice to see a group of artists that have stayed together.
Check out their Manifesto as well.
Balilla Pratella Manifesto of Futurist Musicians 1910 (Excerpt)
"I appeal to the young. Only they should listen, and only they can understand what I have to say. Some people are born old, slobbering spectres of the past, cryptogams swollen with poison. To them no words or ideas, but a single injunction: the end. I appeal to the young, to those who are thirsty for the new, the actual, the lively. They follow me, faithful and fearless, along the roads of the future, gloriously preceded by my, by our, intrepid brothers, the Futurist poets and painters, beautiful with violence, daring with rebellion, and luminous with the animation of genius. Futurism, the rebellion of the life of intuition and feeling, quivering and impetuous spring, declares incexorable war on doctrines, individuals and works that repeat, prolong or exalt the past at the expense of the future. It proclaims the conquest of amoral liberty, of action, conscience and imagination. It proclaims that Art is disinterest, heroism and contempt for easy success. I, who repudiate the title of Maestro as a stigma of mediocrity and ignorance, hereby confirm my enthusiastic adhesion to Futurism, offering to the young, the bold and the reckless these my irrevocable CONCLUSIONS" (Excerpts)
"1. To convince young composers to desert schools, conservatories and musical academies, and to consider free study as the only means of regeneration."
"3. To abstain from participating in any competition with the customary closed envelopes and related admission charges, denouncing all mystifications publicly, and unmasking the incompetence of juries, which are generally composed of fools and impotents."
"4. To keep at a distance from commercial or academic circles, despising them, and preferring a modest life to bountiful earnings acquired by selling art."
"5. The liberation of individual musical sensibility from all imitation or influence of the past, feeling and singing with the spirit open to the future, drawing inspiration and aesthetics from nature, through all the human and extra-human phenomena present in it. Exalting the man-symbol everlastingly renewed by the varied aspects of modern life and its infinity of intimate relationships with nature."
"7. To proclaim that the reign of the singer must end, and that the importance of the singer in relation to a work of art is the equivalent of the importance of an instrument in the orchestra."
"11. To provoke in the public an evergrowing hostiuty towards the exhumation of old works which prevents the appearance of innovators, to encourage the support and exaltation of every thing in music that appears original and revolutionary and to consider as an honour the insults and ironies of moribunds and opportunists."

for bringing us back down to earth. Caught Tom Watts on Austin City Limits a couple of weeks ago and his voice is even more road rashed then befor. Ya got to love Neil young as a major player but favorite list, no. I loved Buffalo Springfield and a few momments of CSN&Y, but his solo projects have been spotty. Rust Never Sleeps is probably one of the best of all time but Silver and Gold right to the bookcase.
Buju Banton is the man. I need to find more of his stuff. Good to see that the famous crackerjacker has posted her list- pretty twisted. Good to see that this thread is still getting good views. The thought of the day is how do we kick file sharing up to the next level. Hell, what is the next level. It sure is easy getting those DJ Z-trip songs. Just click and here they come. No 72 in que/ no partial d/l, no list of DJ anybody but the one you are looking for. VeLeSTaTxV what are those three links to. I try not to download things that I do not know. I guess they are more mixes but ....

neil young more for specific songs, I agree a lot of his stuff is not so good. but cortez, cowgirl, hey hey my my and vice versa, white line, rocking in the free world.... these songs are awesome. they make up for it to me.
and I just listend to it psychotrinic. its: "give me the beat boys and free my soul, I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away..." nowt hats a song to kick back and smoke one too right there. I was gonna post my country and bluegrass list but then I noticed that crazyhorse posted damn near everyone I like on the first page. right on.
hmm... the future of filesharing... I still like the idea for a zeropaid community sight elsewhere like they were talking about in another thread. Maybe a bit society like sepiroth suggested... we all have a lot of music to share with each other it seems.

Roger,
I can field this one, Groovetech has been around for a while, they have a lot of electronic techno streams, the links in question are streams of DJ z-trip and another fine artist DJ Emile to find out more check out djztrip.com, also if you navigate around the ftp site that has the ztrip songs you will find some other interesting music by other artists. For those of you that are into Dr Dre the complete album The Chronic is there, ripped at 192 kbps good quality, and the ftp server is fairly fast.
Gorphon, I stand corrected. I have always loved that song, remember hearing it on the radio, back in the day,,,,,,, ooops my age is showing I dont' care, I feel fortunate to be born when I was I have gotten to sample and enjoy some of the greatest music, even heard John Coltrane live before I was even born, hows that for psychedelic,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

allman brothers - all good
lynard skynard
stevie ray vaughn, well some of this is kinda more like country blues huh? Iove his cover of hendrix's little wing
Little Feat are kinda like country, if you like good music check em out. Some of the members were once members of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention at one time. Very tight cool band.
this music is like meat and potatoes, just so filling :-)
umm I am sure their are more, later
peace!
as for electronic...
does anyone remember Emerson Lake & Palmer, particularly their first album?
The mellotron was one of the first electronic sounds used in modern music and it was moody blues who used it.
Remember them?
has anyone heard of DJ Feather? I just downloaded his CD called Future Sound Tribal Sound Sessions, it's trance and sounds cool. I heard he is from San Diego.
Now if we could post links I would share it ;-)

Man that is a fav of mine! :-)
Don't know why I remember this but does anyone remember iggy pop "down on the street" ?
The Strawbs were a band right before elp and was part of a scene that elp fragmented off of.
Another band from then that was part of that scene was The Flock.
very cool bands from way back, found some of this on various p2p's recently. You might find it.
Some Frisco Bands from the late 60's you might like are;
It's a Beautiful Day - they have a song called white bird that is classic
&
Fever Tree, they do a great cover of buffalo springfields Nowadays Clancy can't even Sing.
Just stuff I remember.
I can't remember some of the stuff related to the 96 tears time slot. Will think on it or look about my stuff. It was a small moment is rock n roll around 1965 and was very cool. They used a lot of hammond organ at that time.
psychotronic420

Gorphon,
No the stones did a cover of it, the guy that wrote it is Rudy Martinez and Question mark and the mysterians did the original version. the album (titled More Action) has been rereleased on the Cavestomp label and is fairly hard to find, this band is Latino and predates Los Lobos. They put out some really cool music. Well worth a listen.
Cavestomp info: cavestomp@aol.com
Phone: 212-505-3723
Rick,
man those groups take me back, you should try to get the rerelease of more action it is a 2 disc set and has a video of the band to boot, and you are correct LOTS of the funky hammond onboard
and as a bonus track they include a rare espanol version of 96 tears that is remarkable in itself.

I get a little freaked when you punch a link and a download starts. And yes I have to agree with all of the above. I have spent entire seasons where Neil Young is just a god. However of late this is not the case. Gota love the hamond organ-Medeski, Martin and Wood do some jammin' jazz that features this giant organ. Such wild tones and so hard to move the instrument around. Never really been reproduced-the original still rules (from Wes Montgomery to Procal Harum).
As for ELP, Greg Lake is quite the crooner. Kieth Emerson is the original two handed keyboard player and could lay out a riff on piano and synth at the same time (it was much harder to do in the early 70's). Check out his early stuff with the Nice, very progressive.
I just love music talk. We have drifted deep into six pages. I kind of feel sorry for those that have not kept up with this thread and first timers. Grab a cold drink and some chips because this is a good read.
Now some food for thought. The next level-more information, easier d/l's, better programs, private groups? The gestalt of P2P where the sum of the parts is greater than the individuals. Ten eyes hunting and sharing results with a collective? Peers sharing the hunt. If we are a hunting and gathering society, do we have a village to feed when we hit paydirt? Are we waiting for the guy that can reach the apple that is higher in the tree? thoughts.................................

Well I could not think of a better way to express what we are beginning, slowly and as we all know, quality is better than quantity.
A private by invitation group is starting and is open for Music Lovers to join. It is a slow growing process...as
It is private in that it is not openly posted anywhere.
I would like to invite posters to this thread and viewers to join if it sounds like something you would enjoy.
Think of it perhaps as a extension of this thread and more! :-)
Roger, could not resist posting this as your last post was right on. (BTW Roger is a founding member) ...

I have spent the last couple of weeks looking around the web at music sites and hunting mp3's that are not P2P sites. Guess what there is a ton of music out there. The most creative use of mp3's is one site I found for Progwest.com/ They are promoting a two day fest in November and every band that is playing has a full mp3 for download. This is good use. Get a taste for the bands that are playing and maybe buy a ticket to the event.
This is just the boat that the RIAA is missing. I have also found a ton of artist's sites that have mp3 d/l sections. Small indie labels the same thing.
Read the Slate article on the frount page. This is the best example of a true state of the music address so far. The big 5 are trying to kill music. It is up to the indie's and the music community to save it. P2P is important because it gives us a tool to battle the mainstream and find and hear alternatives.
There are so many great bands listed on these pages. As you can see there is no one trend. In fact many of these listings are trendless. We have proven our diversity and it is an grand thing. The next level should be even more fun.

yet another list where I have never even heard of one of the bands. I am no electronic newbie and have been following (although apparently not that closly) euro-electronica since the early 70's. I found the Manuel Gottsching site. He started Ashra Temple with electronic star Klaus Schulz in the 70's with some amazingly collectable "Cosmic Couriers" project-5 LP's. LOL Klause just put out (2000) a 50 CD set!!!!!!! At any rate Manuel has a ton of 3 minute samples. You can find these old school techno gems at www.ashra.com.
Thanks Gicapster your list is exactly what this thread is about. You might check out System 7, if you like 160bpm waves you will like this Steve Hillage project.

But I have not been able to keep up in a long time and just kinda go with whatever flows by.
Gicapster! I just downloaded DJ Tiesto's new 3 cd set and it's totally cool, also got sasha's new cd. both off edonkey if your curious.
I will check out some of your list and by the way, where do you mostly get your downloaded music from?
Also can others who have posted list or do post a list mention their favorite place to find their favorite music, so we could possibly locate some of this cool music.
I thin winmx has come along way lately and has much more than this time last year. Also hear lot's of good about soulseek.
edonkey is a cool place for complete cd's but it is harder to find stuff at times.

Hey there!
Nice to see some new faces.
Have you guys checked out RjD2's debut album "Deadringer"? It is Classic! It's one of those debut albums where you flip out the first time you hear it. I am very fond of it right now.
Gicapster: Thats alot of Trance you got there. Do you have time time to listen to all of that?
I'm not too into the euro dance trance, or commercial trance. I have some "commercial" trance, and i spin it from time to time. I enjoy a more underground sound though. To each his own. I'm not hating on anyone for enjoying music. =)

And it is all of you guys that made it happen. Gota just say thanks to MusicMan for just leaving us alone. He poped in on page one and said how weird all of the bands are. i told you it wasn't even starting to get weird yet. VxLeSTaTxv you came along at a very important time when this tread was kind of dying with rehashed alternative stuff. Those that checked out the lively dj scene and it's euro counterparts have been rewarded tenfold. If you want a smile just d/l aquagen "party alarm".
100 posts (and growing) I just feel proud that I have played a part in all of this. I felt really weird as I made the initial post and it sat there for weeks with no posts! These lists are important artifacts. Music is a living thing. It is constantly changing. 60's bands sit there waiting to be rediscovered over and over again. We forget some really good stuff. DJ's reinvent and keep everything fresh. New bands pop up and blow our minds. Music is life. The global reawakeing can be owed much to P2P and it's power to unite music lovers at a level that scares the RIAA and big five.
Since Frank Zappa showed up a couple of times I feel I must comment. i had the chance to interview him not to long befor his death. His body of work (and we haven't even heard a part of it yet-his vault has everything he ever worked on) is so impressive. At 16 I was given his first lp, Freak Out. And "who are the brain police" has been lazer etched in my head ever since. His 1000 plus songs run the gambit. Every one sure to get a reaction. This is not mainstream and never will be but he got some radio play. He is one of my hero's and always will be. He is probably turning over in his grave that people are getting his music for free. If he were still with us he would have something to say, just like he did on censorship.
Thank you all my brothers for making this a famous thread. The future of music is great. As rickio says "Information wants to be free".

Hey I am not afraid to like a mainstream band if they are good! :-)
matter of fact in a general sort of way, you don't get real popular unless you are appealing. :-)
case in point : grateful dead, biggest money making band in touring history and that is weird as they were not typical mainstream but totally accepted and in a weird way, kind of mainstream. :-)

As far as rock/alt. rock goes, that's a pretty good list, but personally I would remove Creed, Fuel, Bush, Matchbox 20, and Staind.
I will listen to anything that is mainstream as long as it is good! And if I find something that no one has heard of but I like it, I will listen to it as well. It is all about good music, and bands that change their sound every once in a while (i.e. not Creed).

One performance that I ran across that is really cool is one titled:

what's been on my play list lately has been Juno reactor some real out there stuff. Also some old God lives Underwater the empty album kicks. Also some power rock i guess with Dishwalla The new album Opaline i think is really good stuff.they overlayed a lot of good guitar. Blacklab was there a bit ago i like them pretty good kinda dark in a sense but still good stuff. anoterh album i thougth was REALLY good but didn't get the attention i think it should was Dave Navarro's solo album Trust No One. i thought the direction he headed on that album was really amazing how he threaded together a lot of different ideas from synthisized sounds to accoustic interwoven melodies. Lyrics were really good too. I think shoudl try that if u want some different Rock.

I could not help myself from telling this Cpt. Beefheart story. I was doing a radio thing in Houston in the early 70's and we got a new manager that invited like 30 radio crazies to come to town for the weekend. i lived in a big communal house at the time so we all said sure they can stay here. Well that weekend turned into weeks (I finally moved out to get away from it). Back to the story one of the guys was the producer of the first couple of Beefheart solos (Clear SPot +??) and he told us story after story of the Cpt. He was just a mess. He was alway just going throught whatever cash he got a hold of and then would show up at like 4 in the morning and go "they are coming to get my car" he would disappear for weeks on end even though he had studio time booked. He is a true free spirit.
The last I heard he is painting in Spain (I think). He does these big distorted faces. He has walked away from music.
A real treat is a Frank Zappa song called "Tiger Roach" found on the Lost episodes. The Cap just is rattleing out the strangest sayings in a stream of pure bizareness. Frank layed his words on a bed of zappanion jazz. big fun.

"It is all about good music, and bands that change their sound every once in a while (i.e. not Creed)."
True. I do like some bands that change there sound every once and a while. Although, Creed has a unique sound to me. If it changed I don't think i'd like that. Its one band i'd like "more of the same" from. Although Fuel is just now becoming mainstream, their first album wasn't really.
Guess its a matter of opinion. Like the saying goes, "opinions are like assholes, everybodys got one".

you are just a thread killer. At any rate new tip check out www.streamload.com for a look at a real goodie. i do not want to go into much detail but could this be the future of sharing. Small community hubs with a direct way of communicating and sharing info. Look at this site and let your mind wander to the possibilities. Keep those euro lists coming. Creed, I could not pick them out of a lineup.

psychotronic 420 you have done it again. Bueatifully orgainized independant music with mostly full d/l's. Nothing gets me off more than finding a site like this. Add to fav's and then find all kinds of stuff. I love finding a good artist that has a catalog of seven cd's. This is the stuff I support. Take a look and try something new. Lost Kids indeed. :fire

And who the hell are you? Everyone listens to their own kind of music, not yours. If someone likes rap, you don't have to immediatly flame them. The people of this site have a name for YOU, a music nazi.
If you have a bad attitude in every thread you participate in, and so far you have, then you are going to come to a startling conclusion... "the people here" don't like pricks.

i created an account just to post onto this forum string...it is my first time at this site and i am very impressed.
anyway, my musical tastes have evolved quite a bit through the past couple years...i've been through my phases, rap(pre-2000), classic rock(all the greats already mentioned in these postings) and various other types of music ranging from country, blues, to metal and classical.
if only one person reads this there are 3 bands that are extremely important to me and i think if you give them a listen, you will realize why....
Modest Mouse (which opened me up to a vast amount of new music)
Neutral Milk Hotel(probably the greatest band you'll ever hear)
Bright Eyes (a masterful poet who got his starts in omaha w/ the band Commander Venus at 14! and made two albums w/ them...which are both extremely good)
other than that, some bands i love....
Tupac (probably the most influental artist in my life)
carissa's wierd
black heart procession
built to spill
silver jews
spoon (excellent band...my most recent favorite)
the shins
grandaddy
crooked fingers (eric bachman's solo band, also plays w/ archers of loaf)
death cab for cutie
mercury rev
mates of state
wilco (good w/ billy bragg, better by themselves)
pavement
ugly casanova (modest mouse's frontman's solo gig)
belle and sebastian
and some old faves....nirvana, pearl jam, stevie ray vaughn bowie, lou reed(and VU), real hiphop(slug, eyedea, atmosphere, clouddead, etc), dylan, nick drake
Anyways, i hope some of you check out some of these bands... they're all great in what they do and maybe you'll stumble on to something and fall in love....
