View Full Version : Uploads and restarting of WinMX

Recently, in order to get uploads, I've had to clear settings and go through the WinMx setup process. I've had to do this every time I turn the computer off or exit WinMX. I have a router, but I've opened the ports, and I didn't have this problem until a couple of weeks ago. Any suggestions?

I'll go through the whole thing:
- I'll have uploads running fine
- I exit WinMX/turn off computer
- When I go back into WinMX, I must go to Settings and Setup Wizard, clear the settings, and go through the whole setup - otherwise, every upload times out.

hey, MVDU.....sorry i didn't get back to this thread quicker.
i've been spending some time re-reading some older posts, looking for the answer to your question.
i've seen the same problem, but just when i think its something i can change, as far as the timeouts.......a user comes along and his upload starts with a decent speed.
it's times like this that i wish Galileo/Skorchie was here.
i'm sure he'd have the answer right away.
as to why u have to go in and redo your settings, i can't figure it out.
i'm sorry.
i couldn't find anything resembling this problem.
and since we have a shortage of winmx users, i'd say maybe try some other winmx forums.
good luck.
;)

1. Check your winmx folder or settings.dat are not set to read only.
2. If settings.dat is corrupt, try removing the entire winmx directory and reinstalling winmx.
3. Check you are not using DHCP (the router may be assigning you a new IP address - not good if you are forwarding ports)
4. Check that there are no other users forwarding the same ports - if so, configure winmx to listen on different ports.

It was set to read-only. Later I'll come back and tell everyone if changing it worked. Thanks!

Checking in again - I can't seem to be able to turn read-only off for the WinMX folder.

I fixed the problem! The DHCP setting was on, and I was assigned a different IP Address. Thanks again, and thanks to Lamourlady for the support.

The read only because you have customized your folder settings, you must have XP/2000 - it uses the read only flag to determine whether the the folder is a system folder and also for web templates.
If you need to fix this let me know.
(You will need to tell me your OS, so I can point you in the right direction).
