i've got some music on cd that are in cda format and want to convert them to wav and mp3.but when i go to encode them through nero,it says fail to open so i can't encode them.for some reason each file is just listed as track 1,track 2,etc so i don't no the names of the tracks (can't remember all of the songs names)so i can't just download them again.is there a programe that someone can suggest that will (convert, encode)these cda files to mp3 and wav. it will save me a hell of alot of time trying to work out the names of each song.ps: also when i check out the properties of each track it's just called track 1 cda, track 2 cda, etc so i can't find the names of the songs that way either.any help or comments much appreciated.

You need a cd ripping application.
Search on google for cdex and or eac. both freeware.
and your on your way.
Ask if you neeed more help but that is what you need.
Nero is ok but not the best. EAC is the best cd ripper and it is freeware and has a builtin cd burning module. So you can download mp3's and burn them to audio cd's with EAC, as well as rip tracks off your cd's and then encode to mp3 or even to ogg if you want to try that.

like Rickio said EAC is generally considered the best
Click here (http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=MP3DB&file=painless) for the Myden guide to mp3 encoding use EAC and lame encoder. it seems a bit much but i've just started using it and once u've set it all up its pretty easy. post back here if u want any help as the email response time is pretty slow (36 hours later after i've sent an email no response - figured it out myself in that time:fire )

Despite all the claims, I think that MusicMatch Jukebox is by the far the most superior CD ripping tool. It's the fastest (yes that's right, beats the pants off of EAC), and has the most control over the quality of the music. And is also the easiest way to rip CDs I can imagine. It has a built in mp3 codec (franhaugher (sp?)). It will go right up to lossless.

MMJB is possibly one of the WORST actually :;)
the lame codec provides the best quality, it beats the pants off everything else, xing, blade, franhaugher (i can NEVER remember how to spell that :P).
and EAC's secure mode is amazing as well, the fact that it RE DOES areas that have pops etc clearly makes it the best option out there.
the dbpoweramp (www.dbpoweramp.com) developer, 'spoon', is working on an alternative to it, which he thinks may peform better....so keep your eyes out for that :P
