XP has a firewall too. Enable incoming TCP 6699 and UDP 6257, as well as all outgoing traffic.

Are you sure you are using v3.22 and not 3.2? When they released the last one 3.2 wouldn't log in.

Enabling Windows XP firewall to work with WinMX

(writing this from work so I don't have either Windows XP or WinMX in front of me, so apologies for any errors)

Goto to start menu - control panel - network connections.
Right click on network connection and choose properties.
The last tab should show the XP firewall being enabled. Click on settings.
You should now see a list of different software items. Those with the check enabled are allowed to work through the firewall.
Click on add at the bottom, call it WinMX1, enter your IP address, enter port 6699 in both port boxes, and click on TCP.
Click on add at the bottom, call it WinMX2, enter your IP address, enter port 6257 in both port boxes, and click on UDP.
Click OK and go run WinMX. Does it work now?

I'm surprised this isn't on a FAQ/tutorial somewhere. It seems to be a common question.

Enabling Windows XP firewall to work with WinMX.........I 'm surprised this isn't on a FAQ/tutorial somewhere. It seems to be a common question. It is very strange that an application as popular as WinMX has no official website FAQ or helpfile. Users have stepped up to provide their own, however. Things like firewall info have been explained on a few independent WinMX sites. (complete with screenshots)

I keep a list of WinMX info sites that I find HERE (http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=528)

elmo i have the same story. the trial version worked but the official release didn't. i gave up trying to be a primary connection a long time ago, so the problem wasn't my firewall. just to be safe i disabled the firewall and still could not even connect as a secondary connection.

i feel very uncomfortable relying totally on kazaa & i over-wrote winmx 2.6. does anyone have it?
