There seems to be some sort of conspiracy here...I buy these cdr's that says they are also for music but everytime I burn a music cd (not mp3's) from mp3's, the cd won't work on my stereo equipment...but it does work on my computer. I can't imagine it's my computer...I think it's the cd's. I've tried numerous brands. What's your experience with this?

Ummmm well . . like . . . I looked it up.
If you had done 1/2 a search, you would have discovered that stereo equipment and computers use a different format.
Im not going to go on and on about it. If you want to learn, start here.
Using the Nero Wave Editor, open the MP3, then FILE > Save As > and chose aiff format, and a name.
When you convert those 10 Mp3s to 10 aiffs, burn them (the aiffs) with Nero, and the CD will play in your boombox, or car stereo.
This is not the ONLY way, but since you are starting at the bottem, its the EASY way.

I usually just convert mp3 to wav first and i havent had any problems. Some burning programs mess up the converison and which is why they wont play, you get half of songs, and noise when playing them...

yes, if you like to waste time, that's a great way to go
if you have nero, just do this, it takes all of 30 seconds choose cd click next, choose compiation disc click next, choose audio, click next, choose finish, drag + drop
click little cd on fire button

This step you shown here are the exact steps that I do that ends up with the useless cd...although the finished cd does work on the computer, it doesn't work on the stereo equipment.

Damn, I was going to let this one go...but it is bothering the hell out of me...Krell, your response to my question has an unmistakeable "smart-ass" tone to it...You remind me of the typical smart ass know it all tech-saavy I am the god type...if it bothers you so much and my lack of doing a 1/2 attempt to look for my answer bothers you...then don't answer my question...jesus christ.

also are you using cd-rw's? they also won't work on most home systems

Nope. I choose the cd compilation option. Also, I only use the CDRs...not the CDRW. I have used other cd brands in the past that have worked just fine on my stereo equipment. I also know that the Nero program is converting the MP3 files because the ~15 songs that I "drag" into the file to burn window shows the amount of data size that takes up the whole cd ~700 mb.
What I am going to try tonight is to first convert the MP3 files as a wav format then burn the cd using the wav files...hopefully this will work.

I had the similar problem too. Maxwell CD's wont play in one of my walkmans.
If its the CDR then u cann't do anything about it. just dont buy it.

I cannot tell you 100% that I chose the "finalize cd" option...but with the prolific and useful suggestions posted by you fine Zeropaid members, I am sure going to try tonight.

You are 100% correct.
However, you cant seem to figure it out, you have a nominal technical knowledge, and even after being shown HOW to do it, you cop an attitude.
Meanwhile, I can convert those files, and burn a CD that will play on a boombox or car audio in less time than it takes you to read this.
I share a house with a musician, he and his friends have the same level of non technical savvy that you do, and I burn their shitty audio CDs for them.
Seeing as your too lazy to do your own research, and the simple free way is just insulting to you, let me post the results of quick search for you, here is your extra 5 minutes:

Now these are the most "dumbed-down" links at a glance, but they all seem to have one thing in common, the need to convert an MP3 to an uncompressed .CDA format, so that a standard CD player knows what the hell is going on, unlike you.
Next time you need support, spend a few hundred hours researching and burning yourself, and dont ask us smart-asses for help, you lazy . . . .

I have been having similar problems as I posted in my "Sony DRU-500a" thread. We kind of got off topic. Basicly problem was that I switched CD burners and now it plays on some stand alone CD players and not on others even when I finalize. I'm gonna try to convert to aiff manually, but I don't think it's going to make a hill of beans difference. I've burned like ten CDs without any compatibility difference whatsoever.
I'm gonna go to imation I think when I'm done with these off brandies. For the money, I think those are definately the best. Hopefully that solves my problems.

Krell, you need to shut the hell up. I don't welcome your smart ass condescending help. You need to stop "helping" people with your wonderful wit and personality. God knows, you definitely fit the personaility profile of a secluded, single white male, who lacks basic social skills who spends most of his time on a computer, and is sexually frustrated, a virgin not by choice, and finds the need to belittle, berate, and insult anyone who doesn't muster the necessary intelligence prerequisite of your deluded sense of your own intellect or ideas. :cross :cross

eschelon, if you didn't want techies on your ass....then don't ask them for help....being talked down to by 'us' is the price you pay for free support, I suppose.
And heres your answer....you could have Googled it up fairly quick....or just used common sense to root out the annoyances behind your problem.
USE DIFFERENT MEDIA! If what you used in the past worked....use it again...if it still works....try the new media...if it fails you know one dye works and the other dye type doesn't.
Basically stick to the same brand or the same colored (dye) media you've been successful with in the past.
How freakin' hard is that? Not very....
Someone could have said that ages ago....
Edit: If you 'kids' can't relax and act civil I'll close this thread as you've already had your answer(s)...start a new one if you wish to fight some more, (that will get closed too....)your better off PMing each other with your lame dick fencing. Cuz it won't be tolerated in the main forum.

Krell that's a great list, I was hoping for something like that when I looked at this thread, thanks for posting it even for this pitiful excuse.
Eschelon try to think of this board as an information resource rather than a schoolyard. You've learned to ignore the fake shooting-gallery ads by now, try to use the same filtering process to ignore the innumerable insults, viruses and 'tard traps that you will undoubtedly draw on yourself.

Well........On one side I see eschelon's point that he was only looking for help and he got a smart-assed unncessicary answer. HOWEVER I also see CC's side that he could have very easily done a google search and found out the answer, so Judge Rudy hereby says that BOTH of you are both right, and wrong, and that BOTH of you have said harsh words, I say Eschelon should apologize to Krell for being rude, Krell should apologize to Eschelon for being a "smart-ass" , that CC should apologize to Eschelon for insulting him, and that Eschelon should apologize to CC for being rude. But w/e, if you guys don't want to then it's your problem. I'm just trying to be a mediator since I just found out today that that's what I "supposedly" am good at.

I have had that problem in the past. For me it was a sony cd-r and it wouldn't work in my kenwood car cd player. It worked fine in all my other cd-players. And in other car cd-players. What I found out is that the cd-r was to thick for my player. With all the other brands that I have used I have never had this problem again. I say you need to try another brand of discs and try your bad discs in someone else cd players. Just food for thought.
Peace I am out of here.

Next time you burn a CD using Nero or whatever other program you are using, make sure you are burning it as an AUDIO CD. Usually it will convert the MP3's automatically for you.

This is because your cdrom cannot read the first bit of the ROM, 1 or 0, that determines if it is cdr or normal, so purchase a newer cd player, I know i have an old kenwood cd player that won't play any burned discs.

That's the really weird thing is that it plays in my 6 year old cheapo CD player, but not in my sister's 3 month old CD player that is supposedly made to play CD-Rs.

I use Nero sometimes , it does a fair job.
I prefer Fireburner. It sounds crisper and it works faster. Its a very small, efficient application.
Try it, you may have better luck for you. It doesn't do all the things Nero does but what it does do, it does well.
Its mainly for burning iso's , bin/cue and mp3 to audio.
don't buy those special audio cds'. Just buy a good cd brand.
those audio cd's are just a reason to charge you more money. I have never had trouble with a regular cd.
sorry for all the fussing here. But that is the ZP way.
just take it light and easy. maybe laugh a bit, post more and they might act nicer later. or if I can catch them in time I can delete the lol
prolly can't tho, they are posting maniacs ;-)

No your not off topic because I think this guy needs to try another cd burning app.
I mean its worth a try.
Alchohol is great and was written by the one of the coders who wrote CD Mate, which is another not well known good cd burning app. CD Mate is Alcohol 120% without the virtual drive support.
I do think it is better than Nero as well.

I recently encounter the same problem when I upgraded my burner to a faster unit. What I discovered was that some of my older players would not play my cds if they were burned at any speed above 4x (my old audio cd burner speed) even though I'm using the same cdr brand I've been using for years.
So try lowering your burn speed.

I've not heard many good things about it on these forums, but I burn all of my cd's with MusicMatch Jukebox ,first the free version, then the paid one.The only problem I ever had was when I used cdrw. Otherwise it's been smooth sailing.:fire :fire
