Hi,

I download a movie in two parts in avi format. But wjhen i tried to watch the bloody film, there was nothing, no picture and no sound but the file seems to be there with the clock ticking away. I tried to watch it on the shareware dvx (player) programme, didn't work and i also tried to play in windows media 9. This took me 1 half weeks to download!!!! Can someone tell me if im waisting my time here??

Thank you

i think your wasting your time its obvious you got one of the many fake files on the p2p scene dont waste your time downloading any codecs its most likly not the movie you wanted..

I have gotten movies that have played with the image shaky or with out sound and played them in other player and it work just fine so it worth it to give it a shot than to just delete...

you have to convert them to divx or some other compressed format--dvds are almost 5GB each, and would take a long time to download

I wouldn't mind pure DVD quality even if it does download a little longer. But DivX or XviD ain't bad either.

Don't delete anything yet for your problem video! You probably just need some codecs. So do these steps:

First, uninstall the codecs

Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers -> Video Codecs (Audio Codecs) -> Remove them manually (not the .dll and .acm ones)

Installation of Nimo Codec Pack (http://nimo.everwicked.com/)

Select the following codecs / filters which are needed (IMHO)!

Video Codecs
Select all (except XviD)

Frame Servers
All

Audio Codecs
Select DivX, Frauenhofer, OGG, Windows Media

Direct Show Filters
Select VobSub, DivX Antifreeze, AC3 Audio Decoder and Morgan Multimedia Stream Switcher

Misc Stuff
Select whatever you think you need (DivFix is a very handy tool when you got a DivX with a broken index table)

Next, get this other stuff not included in the Nimo Codec Pack:

Nic's newest build (http://nic.dnsalias.com/) of XviD
Get the latest binary (atm: XviD-04102002-1.exe) and install it!

OGG DirectShow Filter (http://tobias.everwicked.com/oggds.htm)
Just Download and install it!

Elecard MPEG2 decoder (http://www.elecard.com/products/mpeg2decoder.shtml)
This is optional and only needed if you want to play SVCDs (MPEG2 encoded files) with any player other than a software DVD player like PowerDVD or WinDVD!

If you can't playback the DivX 5.0x files, get the newest version of DivX from www.divx.com and install it.

Get WMP9
Go here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp)

Most of this was taken from Sharereactor forums (http://forum.sharereactor.com/viewtopic.php?t=290)

I think you downloaded a fake video. There are alot of fake files on P2P networks as one of the posters said. Don't mess around with your video settings if thats the only video that is not working.
