I have installed Kazza, Morpheus, Fileshare, ect. NONE of them connect to their servers. I can't download anything.
I have sataliete internet. CAT 5 to Linksys Cable/DSL router - into computer.
My programs worked before, even when I had the router in the mix.
What can I do?

no. the only thing that was different was, computer was infected by virus. I low-level formatted drive and fresh installed win xp...
Before that, the downloads were slow, but I could at least connect..
Nothing now..

It's been spotted.
djtriad - your info is a bit on the lean side. What O/S do you have?
First, get the router out of the mix. Bypass it, and work on your connectivity without the router or firewall.
If you are XP, make sure you have the Internet Connection Firewall turned off. If you have any other firewalls installed, disable them or click EXIT.
I want you to benchmark your download and upload speeds, using the dslreports site.
Work with your ISP if you have issues with downloading or speed at that level. Which ISP is it? They may have P2P apps blocked! why dont you ask them and maybe save yourself some grief.
Once you have established that you can indeed download at your rated speed, using dslreports, then, try ONE P2P app. See if you can connect and make a download.
If you can then connect to P2P apps, then READ your router setup info, to configure it and open the appropriate ports.
Take this step by step, and dont reinstall windows in the mean time. It may take you a week to do this right, but then you will know. SO go do first things first.
cheers

O/S: Windows XP Home
ICF w/ Windows is OFF
Speed: 2003-03-17 16:01:48 EST: 230 / 129
Your download speed : 230797 bps, or 230 kbps.
A 28.1 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 129891 bps, or 129 kbps.
then i get to the kicker..
my ISP is Prairieinet; I called them on the phone.. 'they activily block illegal music sites/servers because of presser from record companies'
They block ports. I got the tech guy to tell me that they block the ports that those programs use... Anyway around this?
