I really hate it when I have to do separate searches for different songs in an album. Why is there not a standard for albums audio? Something that would include the different tracks, album art, and lyrics?

The only thing that comes close is the functionality in Soulseek (http://www.slsk.org/) that let's you "download containing folder", which usually gets you the whole album. I know you can get some albums on sharelive (http://www.intimidated.f2s.com/sharelive/showcat.php?cat=5&PHPSESSID=dd137418b017fe284acfa336a12f9db4), but there's usually nothing there I'm actually interested in.

Can anyone recommend another way to find full albums? And why on earth isn't this functionality built into popular clients such as kazaa lite?

Because most albums contain about 3 good songs, and a ton of rubbish songs...
On CD, you are conned into buying the lot, but on P2P you can choose the good ones.

Winmx and other P2P apps will let you see the files that a user has, essentially browsing their files.

If I find a William Orbit Mp3 @ 320k, I browse that user to see if they have the OTHER songs on an album.

DC++ will let you download a directory, so I chose the Mazzy Star dir, and get the entire contents within.

I think the real issue is learning to properly use, and be resourceful with the apps one has.

Good way to rip entire album is to use exactaudiocopy's (the only ripper u should use anyway) image+cue-sheet option, which rips the album as one wav. Then you can encode it in whichever format you want.

why are individual songs traded? they are only by the lowest common denominator of p2p users--kazaa users, beginners, etc. part of the problem is that the programs like winmx and kazaa don't allow directory downloading

when you get to the hardcore p2p users, they share all complete albums, and use p2p's (dc++, soulseek, etc.) that allow directory downloading so you don't have to screw around with individual tracks

as for album as one track, that sucks--you have to break them down, rename them, tag them, and the files you get won't register as an album (like they would if you got individual tracks) on CDDB or FREEDB

there are programs like albumwrap, but screw them--rip some albums at a high bitrate, share them, and go to dc++. i don't always find what i'm looking for, but i always find stuff i want

like notbob said albums shared as 1 mp3 suck. albumwrap is gd but unfortunately kazaa doesn't allow u to see the bitrates for every albumwrap. now what i do is just specify the album in the search, put the min bitrate at 192 and then let it search. i also obtain the track lengths from various sites on the internet so i am sure i'm downloading the complete track. its not hard but it does require slightly more effort than double clicking a file.

ps albumart can be downloaded automatically using WMP9 and there are many sites on the net with gd quality scans of back, front and insides of covers. lyrics can be added to songs in WMP9 also. not sure about winamp though.

EDIT - ianh go and post ur question in the audio and visual forum in a new thread if u want to get ur answer. in the middle of a completely irrelevant thread a question like that will be ignored.

If an Albumwrap is made of of different Bitrates, cause the maker didn't rip it himself....it will only show the 1st songs Bitrate..meaning you can search for 192 find it and download it only to find 1-2 at 192 and the rest at 128.

method: yeah that's what I have been doing, but we've been having some problems with our firewall using soulseek, specifically most people cannot see our files, which means we are leaches... which is too bad, since I really want to share as well.

Actually it doesn't suck but has many benefits over separate tracks. Why would you have to break it down, rename, tag whatever. Just use mp3cue plugin and you get the track info from the cue sheet while playing. Many albums have transitions between tracks and this is the best way to avoid the annoying clicks when you reproduce the cd. And it's easy way to make sure the whole album is ripped with same tools and settings. This problem is exactly why I always get my music from ftp dump sites instead of p2p, you always get full album rips.

Go here: http://musicdonkey.org

look around there and if you need more help feel free to ask.
there are tons of high quality albums everywhere. You just need to refine your search capabilties and your on your way.

also take a look at the edonkey search engine. http://jigle.com and see if what your interested in might be available.

in other p2p apps enter "albw" without the quotes in your query and see what happens.

i personally find that searching for "albumwrap" in kazaa generates more results than searching for "albw." thx for the information about albumwraps and bitrates though rickio:fire
