You most likely know that Spybot 1.2 final has been released today (3-16-03)

If you have not been keeping up with the recent betas, there are MANY new features for 1.2, I suggest you go to security.kolla.de and download the latest version, or you can use the built in update feature of Spybot to update to the latest version

After you get the latest version, please take some time to go through EVERY option, read what they all do, there is now a description above every page. If you have any further questions post them here or read the updated help file that comes with

I benchmarked the new version, its about 1min 30sec for a complete scan, which now has 6630 defenitions in its database, WOW! Thats at least double the ammount from the first release. You can also speed up the detection process by exluding ussage statistics for programs you don't have, that could save you ten seconds or more if you completely deselct ussage statistics

One other quick note, the DSO exploit now fixes the problem, it doesn't just tell you its fixed and leave it like beta 5

Questions? let me know

I'm glad you started this thread, as my initial analysis of Spybot was somewhat half-assed. I'm just now taking the time to explore the new features. It seems as though SpyBot has become somewhat of a "Swiss Army Knife" of computer applications, while still using minimal system resources. Bravo!

I completely agree, this is deffinately a Swiss Army Knife of sorts, just look back at all of the features added recently, I honestly only use 1 other program to tweak windows (Regcleaner), I don't need anything but this program, its small, fast, and effective

I forogot to include a changelog, so here it is from their mainpage (note: this is not a full changelog, this is very general)-Introduced Easy mode for newbies, Advanced mode for pros
-Improved detections to avoid false positives (MD5 checksums)
-Improved detection mechanisms for morphing files (dynamic checksums)
-Added new Immunize section as a preventive measure against spyware
-Improved help (including description of each page, quick help & help buttons on each page)
-Added silent mode command line parameters
-Fixed some problems appearing as Zugriffsverletzung
-Improved readability for blind users
-Improved and printable logs
-Fixed bug that prevented all user accounts to be scanned
-Improved support for running on non-admin account
-Added support for external file viewers

Most of these features were included in the latest betas, but the betas had bugs, as far as I can see, these work without a hitch, and this is the most powerful and stable version to date

Great program...........has made tremendous improvements since its launching.

Is it just me or does it not display the time elapsed while scanning?

On the first scan, it did the same thing, but I closed the program, rebooted, and it worked fine, I think there are some settings that only work after a reboot, the skins for instance only worked for me after a reboot

Metale, why does it suck? could you be more specific and back up your claims?

actually i like spybot much more because it gives you a detailed description of what you are about to delete, and it tells you what to delete.

At the Spybot Forums (http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi?s=3d344fda3757ffff&) they say it's because the server is overloaded..but I just did it fine..so it works for some, not for others.

Hmm, tried a different mirror? You can change them from the list at the top

Or if you really want it now, I think its available for manual installation from their site security.kolla.de

I'm having the same problem updating as janett999. I tried all the mirrors, they all either say "bad checksum" or "HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden." So, I decided to reinstall to see if that would help. No avail. Maybe I'll try updating late this evening.

im still useing adaware6 and spybot....im still wondering why we both have the same error?

im running XP

glad im not the only one tho!

EDIT: i didnt try to re-install it...i was going to do it later, but, i might not now

I'm running Windows 2000.

In addition to what I said earlier. All the European servers and the one Austrailian servers simply give me the 403 error when I try to update. The U.S. server actually allows the download to commence, but gives me the "Bad Checksum" error when it finishes.

Quite odd, quite odd.

I did a fresh install on a friends computer, and got the same things you guys were

Please refer to this thread http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi?s=3e792b682c15ffff;act=ST;f=28;t=211 2 for your questions, it explains whats going on, exactly what Lion said

Weeeooo!!!

I finally got the update, and from a European server. The U.S. one still gave me "Bad Checksum" for some reason. U.S. can never get on the same page as the rest of the world, or so it seems. :fire

As far as Adaware goes-If you have Fixit-it seems to hang up on C\:blah blah blah \MXCycle.I went into programs, looked around, gave up and did a search(On my girlfriends computer)"AND she uses XP"but she is strange.Anyway-I got zero results for mxcycle-which is part of OnTrack Fix-it.But the search on XP gave me nothing.
Of course I told her to go with W2k-but women are funny about that.Seems the cartoon GUI is a good thing.(And all due respect to the guy who posted that benchmark stuff last week, great post)
Any thoughts or advice?
I just trashed(Uninstalled) the whole On-Track thing and put AVG on there.Lot's of goodies had to go(never could figure out JET defrag)
So-anyone have any advice about the afore mention mentioned MXCYCLE thing?Sounds like my kids bike.
Krell has mentioned Fix-It,but I would have to run AIDA32 to get reponse.Plus I hate XP.
Oh well-gotta go shoot some Insulin(Humilin)into my Dads butt.
Shudderring already.

Night good ZP folks.

The US mirror also gave me the bad checksum error. But the
UniDo (Europe) server worked just fine the last time I updated.
