How come with a normal Cd-R you can record up to 80mins of music but with a Pocket Cd-R you can only record 24mins. I thought it was suppose to be more?:hole Can someone shed some light on this please?? Thanks:devil

It all has to do with the size. Physical limitations........the pocket CD-R cannot hold nearly as much as a reg. CD-R. I think that's why anyway.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that the outer rings of a normal CD store much more data than the shorter, inner rings. When you burn a CD, you burn from the center out to the edge, and since the Pocket CD is not as wide as a normal CD it stores much less data.

I've never heard that Pocket CD's could store more data than a normal CD. . . I don't see how that's possible, unless it's a Pocket DVD or something.

Its not limited to the issue of the size of a disk, rather an issue of compression format.

(Fact is the data could be on a smart card the size of your finger nail and contain 10,000 times more the information)

They simply haven't developed a better compression for the databits. Probably not enough interest on the market to do so.

That's not the reason....

If they changed the CD format....it would be proprietary to that player...or writer.

And besides...it's much easier to create full CD's and chop the edges off like many companies do.

So by the standard CD format you cannot put more then a certain amount on a disc....size is a factor because of the track width. That's why DVD's can hold more yet retain the same shape an size...the tracks are much smaller which makes reading the disc a more delicate job...which kinda makes making mini DVD's for portable use kinda whacky...
