Case for buying comp now: No chance of DRM-infected bios/hardware. Guaranteed free of special "compensation tax" that the RIAA plan to add to every PC sold in Europe. (they've started already in Germany.)

Case for buying the parts individually in 7 months time: Comp hardware gets cheaper with time, so better value in 7 months.

But (and here is the question) How likely is it that ALL computer parts (mobo, ram, cpu etc) will be lumbered with this tax, in the future? I know it sounds pretty unlikely that the RIAA could get a 15% tax put on ALL seperate PC components, but if you had told me 6 months ago that one day there would be a 15% tax placed on all PCs sold...

well, u see my point. so opinions please.

Well for one thing, it doesn't look like Intel is going through with the DRM chips becaause they are afraid of losing the customer base, and if I were you, I would definelty buy a PC now. You can always find a great deal somewhere, and you'll save the tax$$$

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO no,

very wrong indeed my friend.

Hardware gets cheaper AND OLDER.
So basically, it just stays the same.
If your pc is outdated now, you should buy a new machine now.
If you would buy, lets say a athlon xp 2800 now or a p4 2800, in 7 months time there will be a athlon 3800 (evolution is fast nowadays) or p4 3500 etc.

And, you've been waiting for that price of the 2800 to drop, but you ARE buying an 'outdated' processor.

Otherwise, you can wait forever for something to get cheaper. In the end, you will be able to get it for, lets say €5....

Yes, the pc market is a bitch.

O yeah, is that a question in the head of your thread?
Should you buy now or later?

NOW now NOW now NOW

Sprint to that store (if you need a new pc offcourse)!

Otherwise do something nice with your money... like saving the world or something.

like maartendc said. there is no point waiting for stuff to get cheaper as it will jsut be more outdated. just take the plunge, buy the absolute best u can then keep upgrading it for as long as u can.

Don't worry! DRM stuff won't be getting into PCs that soon. And as far as a tax or "Urheber-Pauschale", you won't see that any time soon either. There's a lot of opposition coming from the European IT sector. From what I read they were talking about 30 Euros per PC. Heck, if they'd charge me 30 extra bucks on a PC and I could download all I want - what would be so bad about that?

P.S. RIAA - that last little A stands for America. They don't get a dime from you if you're not in A as America.

well it seems like 1 or 2 people here work in a computer shop, but that's ok.

i'm probably gonna have to wait anyway, since my funds will be a 'bit' better then.

ps: its not like im an upgrade freak - i currently have a p3 450, sdram, and a G400 video card LMFAO.

No I don't!
And if I did, you wouldn't buy it at my shop, but at a shop I would compete with.

So that don't make no sense, does it?

I would wait a 3 months atleast see if anything happens, like my dumb cousin did he went out and bought a computer pretty nice 1.8 ghz but 2 weeks later there where 2.4ghz computers and DVD-RW drives etc... ell you know what i am saying maybe there will be 3.0 ghz and other neat stuff... :fire

If I was you, I'd get the best peripherals...

Ultra high res, very large monitor (I personally don't care for LCD, but that's just me),
Get a nice 4 speaker and subwoofer sound system with the best sound card
A Sony DRU-500a DVD burner since it's the best and probably will be for a long time, and get a wireless laser mouse etc.
Then just put in an Athlon (not the fastest) 2 GHz chip, because they are cheap.
Get an average video card and get like 512MB of the frigizeed 2100 (or whatever is the best) DDR RAM.
Hard drives....well, I hate spending money on hard drives because they seem to get bigger and there is literally no such thing as too much space as I've unfortunately found out. When I bought my first comp 8 years ago, it had 1 gig of hard drive, that was a ton since most computers were around 850MB, then I got this comp 2 years ago, I thought 80 gigs would be way too much, now I think if I had a terabyte hard drive, I'd fill it up in a week.. So, 80 gigs is bare minimum, if you are addicted to downloading videos like me, you're gonna need a lot more, even for the time being. In a year, get a 500 gig or whatever they have then.

I'd look at pricewatch, amazon, ebay, and pricegrabber.com. Build it yourself and you'll have a nice computer for very cheap.

In a year or so, you can upgrade what you will, the mobo, RAM, processor, stuff like that. By then the processors and video cards and RAM (which seem to double every year) will make what we have today so ancient our comps will be relocated to museums.

You can always find a low priced computer, you just have to shop around. Your best off buying from dealerships who sell to shops.

If you have a friend who has a shop, ask him to give you his merchants number and connect yourself directly with the distributor.

Otherwise, go directly to the distributor, tell them that you are a student or that you need the computer for a charity orginazation (make up something that sounds reasonable) and they will probably bend the rules and give you the computer for a steep decrease in price.

Remember, its people who run those companies and departments - not computers, so show up and plead a case that sounds reasonable.

I do this all the time when I buy new equiptment and I always score.

I've made contact with distributors who say "well I cant do it because of the paperwork involved" but then go on to say "I myself as a worker get a nice discount below cost..."

ALWAYS TRY TO GET THE WORKER TO GIVE YOU HIS PRIVLEDGE BEFORE COST! They get better discounts than charity orginizations.

if you want to save money buy the components and make your own pc then you get exactly what you want not what a shop wants to sell you
