Hi,
I've been checking out MP3s via file sharing that are one large MP3 of a full album. Is there a good (free?) program out there that can split this MP3 into multiple files quickly, easily, and accurately?

I use MP3 Splitter, it's small, self contained, and nothing to install.

Very easy to use and supports large files.
Basicly you just mark the beginning of the cut and you can listen to the file and when you get to the gap or area you want to cut you mark it and save the new file, your original file does not get deleted or changed. You don't have to listen to the whole file, you can drag the scroll bar to the area close to where you want to cut and then listen for a few moments to confirm that is the spot you want to make the cut. Mp3cutter is totally accurate and easy to use. Perfect for those large mp3 files.
It's called Mp3cutter and is freeware.
Mp3trim is also another cool freeware app that can fade your tracks beginning or end if you have a awkward trasition you want to smooth out. You can also cut corrupted ending and beginning frames that sometimes happens to a otherwise good file.
Hope this is helpful

Hey guys,
Just answering my own thread here. A couple of more points:
* Other people had recommended using CoolEdit to split the MP3 file, but upon checking I discovered that CoolEdit actually decompresses the MP3 to WAV then recompresses when finished. The problem with this is a potential loss of quality during the re-compression process. And if you're going to convert to WAV for the editing, there's a better program out there for splitting up WAVs = CD WAVE (http://www.cdwave.com/). It's much simpler and more effective than a hefty WAV editing program.
* Another good MP3 editor I found is MP3 Direct Cut (http://www.rz.uni-frankfurt.de/~pesch/). Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to split the MP3. Not sure why that is but...
* I figured out how to split the one big MP3! I noticed that the files I was downloading were labelled with "(ALBW)". I searched Google and found AlbumWrap (http://www.infamus.com/albumwrap/). It's a $15 (only if you don't know how to use file sharing ;-) shareware program that bundles multiple MP3s into one playable MP3 file. The free extractor separates the MP3 back into it's original files. A very cool program that would help alleviate the problems with trading albums via Gnutella progs which do not allow you to browse another user's files. Cool, huh?
