Forum:
I experience the last weeks many timed out connections (DL+UL) and sometimes very low speeds (< 1K/s).
Nothing have changed in my system. But WinMX works not as fine as it did before.
Does you forum-members experience the same?
Specs: WinMX 3.31 (Long time no updates!!!)
WinXP-prof. with XP-firewall off.
Behind firewalled router with TCP/UDP ports opened. (Worked great all the time, nothing changed.)
I will be happy hearing from you....

timed out connections:
usually a sign of a bad ultrapeer/supernode. go to the networks tab and click refresh. if it's still bad, i would suggest restarting winmx.
low download speeds:
many reasons. the obvious is that you may have 1/few sources for a file. if the file is rare, then you just hafta be patient. make sure that you arent using windows update or ie or whatever else that could use a lot of bandwidth. on my machine, it seems like winmx is more than happy to take less bandwidth so that other internet apps work quicker.

I was about to make a new post myself saying the same thing, and saw this thread. There is definately a problem. I haven't been able to hardly do any transfers the last couple of weeks. 90% of the connections time out. Also, as usual ques take forever, and if a xfer ever does start, it goes along at 1k/sec, shwoing it'll take 150 hours to complete. I've left the machine on for a couple days at a time and still don't have any complete transfers. And this is after several reboots, so a Refresh will not help. Also this is on several file types, including not rare files.
Can someone recommend another good P2P app (besides Kazaa) for MP3's? And for software?

Indeed Refreshes / reboots does not seems to speed things up.
Lucky i was, got yesterday a fast T3-connection. Went on 100K/s.
But today again several DSL-connections on 0.4K/s.
Could it be due, the popularity of WinmX, a shortage on primary connections???

Today has been extremely slow with the uploads. Most users are disconnecting. Haven't had it this slow in a long time.

It's a little better on a primary connection, but not much. Still very slow. I'm not getting close to my maximum bandwidth like I was for a while.

Wile, i dont think it would be a shortage of primaries, but instead, maybe too many. the network relies on strong connections between primaries to keep it strong. too many, and regular connections to others would result in less.
i think instead, it is just a little blip in the net. i have experienced none of the problems you guys have mentioned.

It probably is a blip, but it's lasted a while. I really haven't done anything differently.

I'm been going through the same " blips " myself the last week or so .....everything's set like you have but using XP Home.

I found out that some of the problem was my cable connection. But despite speeds being normal, I'm still getting time out messages for too many users. It's either waiting for the network response or the connection timing out.

How did you know it was your cable connection?
If there are too many primaries with not a good enough connection, the next WinMX version needs to ask you how good your connection actually is or actually be able to check the connection itself, instead of just, when you select cable or DSL etc, assuming all cable, DSL or T1 connections are good and automatically setting to primary by default.
I was wondering if the slow performance lately could be because:
1. There are just too many people on WinMX now.
2. Many ISP's are blocking file sharing ports now, so most of the people that time out when I try to download from them have their ports blocked, not knowing this or that they can change ports. I am able to upload pretty well most of the time.
3. Maybe their firewall is blocking it.
4. Some of these people are the RIAA and have it set this way to make people mad and stop using it.
5. People have their client set to not upload until they start it. I didn't know about this until this morning. Lately, I've been in some people's queues for a day or so before it finally tried to start (and timed out! Arrgg). But this morning after being in someone's queue for 2 days, I sent a message to them and got this auto reply message from them:
HEY SOZ IM AWAY FROM PC IF IM IN YOUR Q THEN PLZ START ME WHEN I NEXT CHCK THE PC I WILL START U IF U START ME
I HAVE LOADS OF MOVIES , SOFTWARE, GAMES ETC BUT THERE ON CD SO ASK AND ILL SEE IF I GOT THEM OK
THANK YOU ;) 0 FILE PEOPLE [F-word] OFF U LECHES
(I had to remove harse language). So they had it set to not upload unless they started it. A couple minutes later they started it and messaged me back asking if I was happy. Anyone else experience this?
Attached is an example of any given day for me lately (should have saved as a GIF instead).

The cable company fixed a problem in my area. But now I'm having problems keeping ports open, even with the port forwarding settings correct. I'm getting all time outs for uploads.

I got it back again. I have to keep turning off and on both the router and computer. And even then, seems like the router/WinMX troubles come back.
I've been getting quite a few WinMX uploads that fluctuate a lot in speed, and sometimes just suddenly go to zero. So there are some problems on WinMX. My cable connection is back to normal now, though.

Everytime my uploads are working and I exit or turn the computer off, I have to go through the process of unplugging and plugging the router and turning my computer off and on, and then go through WinMX setup in order to get uploads back.

Something is going on as seen in the replies above....
In WinMX i have 2 different UL/DL now:
1) Fast ones.
2) Very slow ones.
The Fast ones are going at UL-speeds you normally suspect at DSL/Cable, so approx 10-16 K/s..
ALL the slow ones (different users) are uploading from me ALL on the same slow speed of 0,27-0,41 K/s.
So, it is going fast or it is going slow.
Strange isn't it?
What the hell is going on?
