Can anyone tell me what is going on w/ my DC++? Every time I try to start the program it goes through the little splash screen then shows up for like a split second and then closes for good. This happens every time.

I recently found out I'm not the only one this has happened to, I feel a little better knowing it's not just a fluke, but it still means I'm fuct, lol

Hah, on my first use, it does this, you have no idea the great impression I have of this program at the moment....

I think I got .24, and have never had anything installed for DC or DC++ in the past

btw, .24 was released today I guess, just checked the changelog, released on the 11th

where are the P2P gods when you need them?

BTW it is a good prog when it decides to work, lol

I've had this happen to me with other programs what usually works for me is:

1. Uninstall the program, and then reinstall.
2. Defragment the hard drive - (Don't laugh, it works)

If that doesn't work, then try to remember any new programs that you installed recently and see if uninstalling them will help.

What also might work is open the task manager and see if any conflicting programs, or processes are running and see if shutting them down will help.

Alot of smart people here. Maybe someone will come up with a better answer than me.

Well . . .since notbob hasnt jumped in here yet, allow me.

The DC++ newest revs do have issues guys. Its been rock solid, but I have been following the reports today across hubs in broken English, and its not just you that are having issues.

The v.232 PEACE EDITION has only one issue that I am aware of, its the addition of a "FINISHED DOWNLOADS" button, DONT click it !

If you try to go back further than that, You wont be able to join most hubs, they will tell you that your client is too old.
(sound familiar?)

So . . . were going to treat this just like we did when Winmx went to version 3. If you have XP, uninstall it, and then use the Program Compatability Wizard to run it under W2000 or W98 Compatability. Or, get the .232 version.

Also, for those of you that are a bit more advanced, it is common to import your old settings, however, of your queue or file list get too large, it will make DC++ stall on startup . . . MyList.DcLst Queue.XML

Edit: I cant see why anyone would go back to Winmx after DC++, I actually had to check to see if Winmx was even installed! its not.

it's good to see Krell join in on the fun. Well, I tried what Winphuk had suggested, but I still got nothing, I will pay a visit to my local DC forums and see what I can find

...same problem here.

For anyone looking for previous versions of DC++, go here (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dcplusplus)

Nope...

This is very weird...I tried with both 0.232 and 0.24, changed compatibilty modes, and the same thing happens everytime. Iīm running WinXP w/ SP1 too.

Donīt tell my Iīm gonna have to resort to NeoModus DC...

Found a solution!

A temporary one though...

Check out this slight DC++ mod (http://dc-plus-plus.netfirms.com/)

Itīs a mod for version 0.231 but it also has a feature thatīs been requested by many : upload bandwidth control!

Itīs working for me right now...

what you need to do is open the file "hosts" which is located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc with notepad, and at the bottom add:
"0.0.0.0 dcplusplus.sourceforge.net"

after you are in the program you have to delete what you added or else you can't get the pub hub list, after that you should be good. I tried it and it works fine, I haven't had to do anything else, I closed the prog and restarted it without a hitch

something that might come up w/ older versions or mods is that you might not be allowed into certain hubs, but who knows, give it a shot

THX

We got word from notbob that he was having the same problem as myself.

So go with earlier than .v232 and you shoud be fine guys.

Just read on the DC++ forums that there was some kind of fumble with a server-side XML file having non-english characters or something...it seems like the head DC++ guy has fixed it...

Iīll try 0.24 again...

What a mess!

as for dc not loading, it's a faulty xml file

the "check for new versions" function that fires when you start dc++ does something that makes it crash--there are a few ways to fix this

any of these will work

--use an older version (duh)

--replace the xml in the current version with one from an older version

--firewall dc++ and don't let it "phone home" IP addy 66.35.250.209

--add this to hosts file
0.0.0.0 dcplusplus.sourceforge.net
(or 127.0.0.1)

--start up dc++ BEFORE you connect to the internet

i'm sure they'll do a quick bug fix soon enough

(edit) not a problem--they killed the version check site)
