You are quite correct Foreverboard, but you notice that I mentioned New users, you would be amazed at how many folks using the internet that would not know the first thing involved with changing their browsers, even though you and I wouldn't have any problems with such an easy thing, to them it would be like perfoming "brain surgery".

I was using killad for awhile and I liked it alot. I installed outpost firewall and was pleasently surprised to see it had a built in popup stopper and even better than that you can configure for indidual sites as to how you want the pages to load by contolling web content, like stopping javascript or java and more. It has a builtin dns cache which speeds page loads and it's very cool. Very powerful and useful.
It's also freeware. I have tried zonealarm and I like outpost even better. It not only stops incoming but outgoing traffic untill you allow it.

The one I like is Popup Killer (used to be free but now it's shareware).

Yep, Pop Up Ad Filter from Meaya is easily the best out there at present.

I just use the pop-up blocker which comes with Zone Alarm Pro 3, seems to block most of what I don't want.

I am a big fan of this program for popups and ads. Used in conjunction with a hosts file and eDexter it seems virtually perfect.
