View Full Version : Unable to upload because of Zone Alarm?

I've never posted here so I'm sorry if this is common knowedge :)

I recall last year that I was never able to upload to people using Kazaa or Kazaa Lite. Uploads would start high like 60 k/s but then drop in seconds, only uploading 128k (or a little more) total, then the upload would soon be aborted. I had formatted my system (for other reasons) installed a new version of Kazaa Lite and for the past few months have been uploading on Kazaa without problems.

The other day I installed the free version of Zone Alarm on my system. After trying Kazaa I have noticed that every upload is being aborted in the same manner described above. I tried shutting down ZA, and rebooting without even starting ZA, yet I still can't upload on Kazaa. Any advice on what I could do to solve this problem? Has anyone else experienced this?

I have an Athlon XP1700, 1GB RAM, Windows 2000 Pro, with cable internet and a Linksys Cable/DSL Router.

You can use another software firewall, like tiny or kerio. ZA is basically no protection anyway. It's so widespread, that even the script kiddies in Lower Banania know the holes and exploits.

Very confusing, I've now uninstalled Zone Alarm and rebooted. I'm still unable to upload on Kazaa. Is it possible ZA left something behind after it was uninstalled? I'm very confused on this one.

do u mean that after a certain time downloads come up saying aborted? if so this is normal. kazaa automatically searches for closer and faster sources, so it will stop uploading off u in perference for another user. if "some" data is able to be uploaded from u, then nothing is wrong.

no, everytime it begins to upload, it stops at 128kb sometimes 256kb. The upload speed may start fast, over 50kb/s at times, but drops down in seconds. It may even show the upload speed changing for a while as if it were still uploading, however nothing else is ever transfered. The upload is eventually aborted, and this is with ALL my uploads, not just occasional ones.

I've attempted to uninstall zone alarm and kazaa lite, and even installed a different version of kazaa lite and I'm still having this same problem. None of this happened until I put ZA on my system, what could it have changed to do this? And why is it still doing this now that ZA is gone?

no, everytime it begins to upload, it stops at 128kb sometimes 256kb.

is any data actually uploaded? ie whilst uploading does it say 10kb/****kb uploaded for example? if there is any number instead of the 10kb (except for 0) then u are actually uploading data.
as for the speed starting really high and slowing down, this is caused by the downloader having a slower connection than urself. it just takes time for the transfer rate to settle down.

btw go into kazaa lite, then tools/options and change the incoming port from 1214 to 80 and see if any uploads work then.

The upload speed may stay 5kb/s or whatever for a few seconds or even a minute.... but the uploaded file display will not change during this time, for example... 128kb/4596kb. then ultimately, it's aborted.

Unless it's simply not showing the data that's been transfered, it's not uploading. I appreciate all the answers being given to me, but keep in mind, I've had kazaa working fine for several months and can tell the difference between what's happening now. This really doesn't affect me too much, as I can still download fine, but would like to do my part and share my files as well. Anyways, has anyone else ever had this problem?
