I have a 12x max CR-RW burner, and it would usually take me from 5-10 minutes to burn onto a CD, depending what I was burning and how much. Lately, it's going MUCH slower.. it took 20 minutes to do around 60 minutes on an 80 min CD.
I'm using the current version on Nero, and never had any problems with it before. I never run anything else while burning... anyone have an idea what happened?

Yeah my burner slowed down too lately. But I suspect it is the media I bought. Have you recently bought or used a different cd blank than usuall?
I usually buy fujifilm and it is fairly high quality. I couldn't get any recently and got another brand and that is when my burner slowed down.

yeah, it depends a lot on the media. I used to get speeds of 1x and 8x on my old 8x burner.
Just experiment with a few different tyoes, the brand names dont always perfom the best

I haven't changed CD brands lately... I've been using Verbatim for nearly a year and never had any problems. And I haven't really installed any new programs recently, either. That's why I was confused, since I really haven't changed anything.

well I'm gonna try and figure out why I am getting slower.
I'll let you know if I figure it out.

Are you sure it's set to max? It might be set to 4x which would take 20 minutes to burn a CD. Other than that, I didn't even know it's possible to burn slower with different CDs.

Yeah, i think it does have somethin to do with the brand name of the cd, but i believe that it is basically to do with (1) the specs od your computer and (2) the ammount of crap on your computer. I have a PIII 800 with 256MB RAM and with my old ACER 8X4X36, i could only burn at about 7X, and with my new LiteOnIT 48X24X48, i still can only burn at about the same speed. I have also notice that with more crap I have on my computer (not just progs running in the background), the burning speed lowers. I don't know if this is the case with everyones computer, or mine is juz crap.

Well, when I burn with Nero, it says 3,164KB/s or whatever it is, and sticks with it. It burns that much on the disc whether it likes it or not, and whether the disc can take it or not. It takes the exact same amount of time every time. And I have used all kinds of discs. Lately I'm using some super offbrand called SpinX which seems to get the job done, there's not even a label on it. And I have all but 300MB of my 80 gig hard drive filled up.

I'm playing around with my settings right now. It definitely is set to 12x, I always make sure to check. Right now I don't have too much junk on my computer, I make sure to clean it out on a regular basis, but I do have a couple things I want to uninstall and delete, so after I do that and clean things up I'm gonna try again. I'll post if there's any changes.

In my experience, slow CD burning is caused by file fragmentation. Windows defrag might not do a good enough job. Try Diskeeper Lite (freeware).
