Hi,

New to this so be soft on me!!!
Erm, simple question- What's the best P2P program for downloading games???

Thanks for your help!!!

Emule

*Hides for Kazaa lovers*

Why?

Because Emule has tons of games which Kazaa has not (plus waaaaaay more sources per file) =)
You can download Emule at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=53489
Then if you deceide to take Emule, you need a server.met file, and I got a good one with 600 servers. Don't worry you can set the servers in order of amount of files =D

I use K++ for games. If you get it from www.k-lite.tk and click on web there are links to sig2dat websites which have tons of verified games. If you are going to use emule though, go to www.sharereactor.com to get ed2k verified games. Good luck and welcome to Zeropaid.

If you are at that site just click on the Emule installer. Select version v0.26a because that one is the most stable, v0.26d tends to crash on most systems. Then select a mirror site close to where you live, for example if you live in Belgium select Belnet etc. It doesn't matter that much which mirror you select though, just click on the picture that says "26xxkb" on the right of the mirror site advertisement.
I also attached a server.met file, which you have to unzip and then put in your C:\Program Files\Emule folder.

Can you only connect to 1 server at a time?

Andy_TRN
March 1st, 2003, 06:56 AM
If you put the server.met file in your Emule directory it will automaticly load up that file after you launched Emule, and it will show you the list of servers right after. Then if you click on "users" above the list it will set the servers in order of the amount of users. And if you click files .. well ..it will set it in order of files. Then if you double click on a server it will connect.

I also made a screenshot and pointed out where you should click on the screenshot, check it out =D

Put the server.met file in your emule folder, and press connect, it may take about 2 minutes to connect sometimes, but sometimes right away!

Edit: Damn you beat me Andy!, lol

You have to download a special Movie player like BSplayer, then goto Emule preferences there you can select a movie player to preview. Click on browse, and then select the .exe file from the movie player. Then apply, right click on the file and select preview, and bam.. there's your preview =)

Right, so far guys you've been brilliant so thanks for that!!!

Just two more questions then i'll leave you alone : -

1) I'm with a 512kbps broadband provider but whilst downloading on e-mule, speeds of only 11.5kbps. Will it get quicker???

2) When downloading games off shareacter, what do these three files mean and what are there importance for games- 1. .bin 2. .cue 3. nfo?

Thanks.

Andy_TRN
March 1st, 2003, 01:28 PM
No speeds between 10 and 30kb/s are pretty normal. Though when a file is very popular it might get up to 100kb/s. But what matters is that you finally get the file.
About the files:
.cue: contains information about the .bin file (for CD burning prog)
.bin: usually the .bin file is the only file you need. It is a common format for the most CD burning programs. I use "CD mate" which is small (only 6mb) and easy to use, and in my opinion better then Clone CD.
.nfo: this file has some extra info about the game, like when you don't get it to work check that file.

When you can't open the .nfo file rename .nfo to .txt and there it is.

Sorry i lied, i have more questions!!!

1) After a few minutes of downloading the download stopped and the source number thing started to change. What is the source thing all about???

2) I currently can only get 4.5kbps, also my e-mail and web surfing has slowed down significantly, any reasons as to why and how i can improve it???

Thanks.

Well double click on your download, it will show you everyone that has that file, and the number in line you are. For example if it says QR:10, you are number in 10 in line to download that file. After you double clicked on the file and you click on priority it will set the files in order of queue row.
Your other problem is you probably have your upload speed wide open slowing down your internet and your downloads. Click on preferences then goto "connection" and set your max. upload and max. download speed. But you can only download 4 times your upload speed so when you set your upload speed to a max. of 5kb you can download with a max. of 20kb/s. When you set your upload speed to 10kb you can download unlimited.
I hope that pretty much solved it for you. I also have a modified file for online gamers so they can set their upload speed low while downloading at max. speed, if you want it just let me know.

Sorry my mistake!!!

Just found out that i'm only connected at 85kbps, which is obviously the problem!!!

Another question though: -

Is there links for verified files for Kazaa, not Kazaa lite???

Thanks.

Kazaa and kazaa lite are the same thing, just kazaa lite doesn't have spyware/adware.

but i don't know of any verified file sites for kazaa, sorry!

Sure, all files work on all file sharing programs.

Anyway I added the emule mod. Note that you can't turn your upload speed off, but set it to a minimum of 1kb

Yes, it would work on both, kazaa and kazaa lite are the same network.

But i found some sig2dats that phalkon30 posted on the forum:
http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7489
A sig2dat is just a system for verifeds on the kazaa network!

Sure, all files work on all file sharing programs.

I can't add the file in a attachment, it's a bit too big. So if you want I can send it to you via msn, or e-mail.

IMO eMule is a good program to choose, and the other post have been good in getting a grasp of the program. But IMHO
the best version is .26b. Don't use .26d, cause there are two bugs I know of, the worst being that downloads totally suck.
In the eMule forums many ppl have complained about this, and
most of them went back to .26b.

Andy_TRN
March 1st, 2003, 02:48 PM
I use version 0.26a, since that is the only version my mod works for. And it seems to be the most stable.

Thanks.

You need patience yes, for large files it might take 3 or 4 days (if you leave it on about 10 hours a day). And there aren't any other programs which have that many stuff too choose from. Though you could go and buy the stuff of course =)

March 2nd, 2003, 06:26 AM
Yep gud point but i cant afford to be spending £30 every week on one game!!!

I'll take your advice and be pacient, like you said at least you get the file!!!

Thanks for your help!

Hello again!!!

Right i've downloaded a 725MB bin file (game), but in the 'incoming' folder situated in the 'Emule' folder, the file says "opens with: unkown application." When i double click on the bin.file icon itself a caution box comes up saying which application do you want to open this file with and then it gives me a list!!! Any ideas how to get it working???

Oh i've just realised i ant downloaded the NFO. file and Cue.file that goes with it. Is that my Problem???

Thanks.

Andy_TRN
March 3rd, 2003, 03:50 PM
I see, 725mb.. that's pretty quick =)

Well the anwser to your problem is that you have to open the file with a cd burning program such as "CD Mate". Simply insert an empty disk, open CD Mate, select "Image file to CD" and then select the file and it will take about 5 minutes to burn it on CD depending on your CD burner speed. Also read the .nfo properly.

Stalemate
March 4th, 2003, 10:30 AM
Yep burned .bin and .cue files to CD using application and method you said but the files are never recognised. The files add upto to 726MB but only 631MB is burned. Is there something i'm doing wrong???

Thanks.

Andy_TRN
March 4th, 2003, 10:34 AM
Nope, when you extract a .bin file from a CD it's bigger. And when you put it back on CD it get's smaller again. Has to do with file compressing.

By the way the game runs right?

Oh on i can't get the game to work. When i put the CD in the drive it doesn't do anything and when i bring up the Q (CD-drive) window there are no icons even under all file types, but 631MB has been used it says!!!
Any ideas???

Thanks.

Andy_TRN
March 4th, 2003, 12:39 PM
Well an icon isn't really needed.

Try double clicking on Q: (as you said that was your CD drive) and look if there is a file called "setup.exe" on the CD. Also, what program did you use to burn the CD?
Did you choose burn imagefile to CD, or burn data CD?

Stalemate
March 4th, 2003, 12:42 PM
I chose the burn 'image to CD' using CDMate. Setup.exe does not come up either!!! Can you go through in detail the steps of burning the file to CD, E.g. Which file to choose under what type, etc???

Thanks.

Andy_TRN
March 4th, 2003, 12:53 PM
When you browse trough the CD folders it doesn't show any files at all?

Ok well it should have gone like this:
-Insert empty disk, make sure it's a regular 700mb CD (not a CD/RW or 650mb disk)
-Launch CD Mate, the wizard will pop up.
-Choose "image file to CD"
-Select the .bin (not the .cue file, it's not really needed and sometimes it goes wrong) file using the browse option.
-To be safe set your burning speed a bit lower, so don't burn at max. speed. For example if your CD burner is 24 speed set it to 16 speed. This way the disk will be clean of errors (and if there are any errors in it afterwards it's not your fault)
-Wait for CD mate to spit out your CD after it's done =)
-Try inserting the CD again, the "autostart" menu should launch. When this is not the case, browse the CD folders for a setup.exe file.
-Install the game and you're ready to rock.

Right thanks for that bit of advice!!!

Erm, i've actually got the game working now using Deamon tools, which i'm very pleaSed about but i still want to learn how to do it with a CD!!!

Andy_TRN
March 4th, 2003, 01:18 PM
You could also try a program called "Alcohol 120%". It can create virtual-CD players as well and burn images on virtual-CD drives, and it can also burn and create CD images. I use 3 virtual drives mainly because I can test image files before I actually burn them on CD, also sometimes I'm too lazy to insert the CD =D

Stalemate
March 4th, 2003, 01:34 PM
So, what if i want to install another game the same way. Will this now become part of that virtual drive i.e. Replace the last game before it! If so will the game before it still work???

Oh yeah, got the game working form the CD thanks to the brilliant Andy TRN. I realised i was burning the cue. file before which was my problem, but why did this also take 631MB of disk space like the .bin file???

Thnks for your help!!!

Andy_TRN
March 4th, 2003, 01:41 PM
With "Alcohol 120%" you can create as many virtual drives as you want. when you have that program you only need to right click on the file then select "mount image file" -> "mount on F:" for example. It will only take 1 or 2 seconds to "burn" it onto the virtual drive. And only 1 or 2 seconds to remove the image file from the virtual drive as well.
About the .cue files, some are messed up and belong to other .bin files (from the same game but other size). Plus you don't need the .cue file anyway.
