View Full Version : BCDC++ - Emulating Clients

If one chooses to emulate NeoModus' DC using BCDC++, would one be able to bypass hub rules for DC++ clients? More specifically, would one be able to use 2 hubs, both with a requirement of 3 slots per hub, while only having 5 slots open instead of 6 and go undetected by ops or scripts looking to enforce said rule?

Thanks for any helpful answer. P2P "morality" lectures not wanted.

maybe

only in small hubs, because the big ones know how to spot non NMDC clients and tend to kick and ban them (and even the small hubs that are anti ++ like anime hubs know how to spot ++ users even with a deactivated ID tag)

there are scripts that see thru BCDC++ rather easily

Actually, it is very difficult to detect a BCDC++ client since they can change the user agent string to appear exactly like a NM client.

Technically it's better, but don't ask me how to utilize those extra features, I haven't used it all too much, especially since I couldn't get into any of my favorite hubs w/ BCDC, maybe someone can help us out

*EDIT check out the link for details HERE (http://utrum.dyndns.org:8000/)

that's just dandy, but all i have to do is get your list and see that it's user.bz2 and i know you aren't using dc (and also know you are hiding your ++ info)

can't hubs still allow alt DC clients while still filtering the harmful features? One hub mod once told me it was possible

sure there are scripts to block the bad clients (mldonkey, other fake clients)
along with scripts that block bcdc++ users, or only ones that throttle bandwidth, or dc++ users on more than x hubs, or sharing less than x slots, or sharing more than x slots etc.

these scripts can be as specific or general as you make them--you can block certain clients, certain functions, whatever you want

it's just more work than a lot of lazy ops are willing to do

What if one makes BCDC++ emulate DC++? That causes the client to show only the DC++ tags, and would probably eliminate suspicion. I don't like rules against bandwidth limiting. If my upstream is maxed out, then my downstream will die and I won't be able to do much of anything... even surf the web. So, I usually set it to a few KB/s below my max upstream to allow functionality. I think that's fair, since there's no reason in going into a hub if the only result will be the loss of your downstream while the hub leeches your files.
