Could someone give me some tips on where to search for songs, etc.? I think I have everything I need for downloading as far as software goes, but I feel like I'm running in circles. All I am finding is forums to talk and I would like to download some songs. Sounds stupid I know, but I haven't had a computer with internet access in almost two years (since Napster was the thing). Help please!!

Check out the ZP sections on the various file sharing programs and find one that you like. I use kazaa lite.

Welcome to ZP!
I personally dont like KAZAA, but if you are using KAZAA, make sure you are using a version that doesnt contain adware or spyware.
Click here for an advanced version: http://www.k-lite.tk
Otherwise I would suggest EMULE.

Monyak makes a post without mentioning any as of yet unreleased software, nice.
Kazaa Lite ++ would be my "Hi, I'm new or new again to filesharing" program of choice also. It has an easy learning curve and you can find all the generally available songs.
Otherwise you might try Shareaza or Piolet. Different network, same finding music files.

And me! tee hee...
...
Here Beth, I can help you.
1. First download 1 or more filesharing programs off the internet.
WINMX is probably the best one for music (songs). It's available from http://www.winmx.com <--click this to get it.
It's a bit more advanced though. For fun tips and tricks and help on WINMX, check out this help site: http://winmxinfo.cjb.net
Kazaa from www.kazaa.com contains SPYWARE. Do not use that! Do not even install it. It has the most users, but also the most spyware and the most viruses. If you must use that system, then use the alternative that they are mentioning above, it's a version where someone has gutted out all the spyware. KazaaLITE version, from http://www.k-lite.tk It's not the official program from the original company, but it does have the nasty spyware removed from it. (You still have to be conscious of viruses though, as on any of these file downloading p2p programs.)
eMule is another program. There was one called eDonkey and the guy made one similar but with a little nicer interface and called it eMule. Click here to get it: http://emule-project.net But when you run that program it's not going to connect right away, you may need to teach it how to connect by giving emule a server list. Just copy this --> http://ed2kmet.x24hr.com/pl/slist.pl?download/server-max.met <--- don't click this, just copy the text, open emule, click the SERVERS button, and PASTE it into eMule in the blank field on the right hand side and click the UPDATE button. Then you should be able to connect. eMule is good for movies, and software.
Soulseek is a program that has a lot of electronic music. You can get it from http://slsk.org (note that they weren't able to get the word soulseek with .com, so don't go there. It's just a 'cybersquatter' with a site full of ads. go to slsk.org)
2. Ok, once you've downloaded whichever program. Install it. Then run it. You'll usually need to sign up and pick some options the 1st time you run it. Depending on what program, look for the words "Connected" or perhaps a GREEN symbol that says your filesharing program is online and ready to go.
3. Find the program's SEARCH button, or Click SEARCH to go to its search screen. Type in a name of a song or whatever you're looking for, and click to see if it can find it out there on its network. In some programs, like eMule, Soulseek, & WINMX, you can search for more than one thing at a time if you want.
4. Once you have a list of things it found for you, double click one that you want, and it will take you to its transfers screen and try to download it for you. Watch the progress bar and when its done, then you can go play it or open it.
Have anti-virus software running so that you don't get infected. Free antivirus software is available at: http://www.grisoft.com Get that before you do anything else, if you don't have an antivirus program running on your computer already.
I already gave you the help site for WINMX. http://winmxinfo.cjb.net
There is a beginners guide to eMule here: http://www.emule-project.net/faq/
Kazaa has a FAQ page here: http://www.kazaa.com/us/help/index.htm
Soulseek has a Q&A help page here: http://www.slsk.org/faq.html
If you downloaded a file and you don't know where it went, go use the SEARCH/FIND command on your pc in the START menu. Or simply press the WINDOWSkey + the letter "F" for Find, and type in part of its name and your pc will find it.
Good Luck.
