Forgive me but what does the term leech mean?
I think it might be where someone downloads off someone but doesnt share himself?
Sorry I'm a damn Newbie lol

You are correct NDGAARONDI,
Questions about how to leech generally don't get an answer. It is not in our interest to help people leech.

Heh, I wouldn't be suprised if one of those leech clients actually turned out to be a program that functions as a trojan. Opening you up for all kinds of hell from the developer. The last thing the crummy ed2k protocol needs are leeches... it's bad enough without leeches taking up space in the already painfully lengthy queues.

What I don't get is why p2p s/w has made this possible. Why did Kazaa do it in the first place? Can't there be an add on in the future to prevent this?
There will be no p2p if no one shared, I would've thought p2p makers would know that.
Also what annoys me is that there are ppl out there using Kazaa Lite that burn large files and make them avaialbe but have a bandwidth of 1! e.g DVDs.
I reckon they should allow a minimum amount for this. And if anyone wanted to not share something etc for maintenance etc then they can disconnect from the p2p client anyway!

One of the cracks of Zone Alarm was like that, it was set up so that if you cracked your copy the backdoor created for voluntary critical maintainance turned into an open port it couldn't see. Nothing openly malicious from those guys, the 2 functions were just actually the same function so you couldn't have one without the other.
If you knock out the security guard on your way into the place don't blame him when you get mugged.

don't download cracked emules from the edonkey network, most of them are troyans and viruses. download only from normal http servers, and even then double-triple-check that it's not a virus. I can confirm that there are some cracked versions, I myself found several ones that work very well (upload: 1, download: 0=unlimited), but I better don't give any addresses here, or others will kill me :shy . anyway, this should be only used if you are playing online pc games or download from the http/ftp net/irc/kazaa at the same time. apart from that, many of us are on dsl, so why not share, unless we download many things at once? bandwidth is there, after all.

One thing I have noticed about eMule is if you request only one file and limit ur dl to 80%ish then you can get a comfortable d/l speed.
I managed to d/l about 270MB over a space of 24 hours roughly.
Dont know if this is a coincidence or what though.....

Very good point I agree with that... i started using emule this week and I connect to a server and actually got some dls but since i have rebooted I can never get connected to anything for dls so my list has just been sitting there.

Do you know why Bittorrent is so popular? It's because you get fast speeds. You get fast speeds because you are forced to upload. But if you want to help ruin the network that you use then go right ahead.

yeah but bittorrent has a downfall...
you cant finish if people dont leave it up...
and it happens alot...
you are forced to upload (not true there are leecher mods too) WHILE you download.
besides. you can choose what speed you upload at without taking away from download speed. there is a choice to upload or not with this mod. i am uploading at 7k right now :-P
i just dont feel i need to upload at least 10k (i only have 16k up on my dsl) and still not able to browse the net at the same time for the services I PAY FOR.
files on emule are illegel (or what most people are on there for) so what is the point you are arguing here??

The point that I am arguing is that you seem to like emule (and probably getting your files quickly) yet you don't mind people using leacher mods which slows down everyone's download speed, including yours and makes less files available.
You say that you just like to have the choice on whether you upload or not but when given the choice many people will choose not to upload. If people were told that they didn't have to obey the speed limit, how many do you think would?
Yes there are ways to become only a leecher with BT but the tracker can easily ban your ip address if someone sees that you are only downloading.

Damn... 270MB takes 24 hours? That's horrible.
I use eMule Plus and get many GB a day. Probably 3gb/day average. I upload 24/7 @ 14KB/s, cause if I go to 20KB/s over 24 hrs I get capped @ 12 (>_<!!!) even though peak is 100KB... bastards. So I figure 14 is safe, cause normal surfing, IM'ing and whatnot gives me like 5KB/s more upload to play with. Bah.
Point is I try and be a good p2p citizen, and everyone else should do whatever they can. I even leave it up when I'm not d/l'ing anything.
Bah, fuckin leeches.

Ok not all leecher mods are bad. I use neomule and my ul/dl ratio is 2.35:1 this is because when i download a 700mb dvdrip it take me say 10 hours @ 20-50kb peaks however for 20 odd hours after that i use my neomule to upload the file on powershare at 35kb my maximum to many people using friend slots. As normal emule only allows 1, the truth is that neomule is not a leaching mod, people only choose for it to become a leecher mod.
