You guys ought to go to www.slyck.com and read the article there called "Music Industry Meltdown?" In that article, they just about sum it all up....how the industry blames P2P for declines in sales and YET some of it's OWN MEMBERS (like Sony for example) that sell computer related recording products (such as blank cd's, blank dvd's and the recorders themselves) DO NOT WANT FILESHARING TO GO AWAY!! This is because the big five labels sold about 20 billion dollars (TOGETHER) in music last year...BUT SONY ALONE SOLD MORE THAN TWICE THAT IN COMPUTERS AND ELECTRONICS...........about 42 BILLION!!! (This is according to wired magazine figures and THAT estimate is for the SONY company ALONE!!) Now Sony is getting into the new kind of cellphones capable of COPYING and STORING music files!! Now.....You tell me.......with sales like that.....do you really think that they want filesharing to go away?? I am sure the one's in charge of Sony music studios might, but I am also sure that the ones in charge of Sony computer electronics who are making a KILLING in sales are not ready to bite the hand that feeds them.......therefore you basically have a SPLIT....right in the middle of the Sony company!! And that is only ONE company of the big five that owns a recording studio AND sells products to consumers, some of the other companies of the big five do the exact same thing......sell recorded music to retail outlets and then turn around and sell CD Burners that can rip a audio CD at 56x to consumers!! I see a sort of "Civil War" going on behind he scenes of Sony and the like.....and the battle lines are being drawn.....but what a company is interested in most is profit! I think that most companies that own studios AND sell burners will more than likely let the studios fend for themselves and try to sell more burning equipment......because they can sell those at 2 to 1 the rate they can a recorded CD. The days of the RECORD MONOPLIES are over........may they rest in peace!!!

I pray you are right. I hope the record monopolies are dead but I feel they will and are in the midst of one last push to destroy p2p with this verizon case out west. Wait and see.

I have always looked at this case as a "last gasp" by the music industry, but as you say, we will just have to wait and see what happens. And even if they win, let them TRY to send out a bunch of letters to peoples ISP's..............You think that people are upset with the music industry now....... hacking the RIAA site and whatever........there would REALLY be a consumer backlash if all the "little johnny's" (teenagers) all over the US got sent "cease and desist" letters courtesy of the RIAA! Not only would a bunch of script kiddies try to do SERIOUS DAMAGE to the RIAA site(Lets face it, if a hacker REALLY wanted to shut down the RIAA website for a while or corrupt files on the website, they could do it! They are really only just PLAYING with the RIAA right now.... but wait until you make them MAD!), because some of their friends got nailed, but the PARENTS would get involved and THAT means trouble! THEN it would be LAWSUIT CITY for the RIAA and MPAA! Also, trying to explain to a judge HOW you obtained the "illegal files" information from somebodys computer might prove to be equally as interesting! I have always said that if they ever try to impliment "spying" on peoples computers or going a step further and "placing viruses" on them....THEY WILL GET THEIR PANTS SUED OFF! This ought to be an interesting court battle one way or another, though!
