i love techno, and would love to be able to make some of my own songs. unfortunately, i do not have any money to sink into a great authoring studio or program...

does anybody know of a program, for windows or mac osx, that i could use to make my own mp3's? or wav's? i can convert a wav to mp3... no midi though. (unless you know how to make an mp3 from a midi)

any other suggestions are appreciated :)

Techno, eh? Not a lot of money? Try Reason. http://www.propellerheads.se/products/reason/frame.html
It should blow your mind pretty good if you're into techno.

I used to use a program called Acid by Sonic Foundry

http://www.sonicfoundry.com/products/default.asp

Then check out the acid programs, looks like now they have a special techno version...

That's really more of a loop assembler than an actual creation tool. You might wanna check out Reason. If nothing else, you will be amazed by the sheer amount of stuff you can do with it.

Believe it or not, the best easiest music creation tool i have used is MTV music generator(though MTV has nothing to do with it, it is made byJester Interactive, and published by Code Masters)

I kid you not, it is amazing the quality of music you can make with it. ANY style ofmusic, orchestral, jazz, swing, hard rock, metal ,pop techno, trance. All the samples you would need, and thousands of instruments.

You can creat your songs note by note, or construct it using pre made loops, you can import your own smaples also.

All of the editing tools you could imagine, Note Pan envelope, Chorus, reverb a kabillion different filters, note offset variables, on and on.

Best of all, it is only 20 bucks now since it has been out for awhile.

And it is so user friendly, it doesnt have a million icons that are only 4x4 pixels you get hundreds of audio channels.

I could go on and on, but really is an awesome tool.

LOL, not flaming ya, but if you are someone who is serious about making music then that MTV prog is a fu*ken joke, that is just my opinion, it is way too dumbed down if you wish to take production seriously, but if you just wanna play then I guess it's worth a look

I have made some extremely nice sounding music with it, would never know it wasmade with MTYV Music generator, I HATE the name because MTV has nothing to do with , just a marketing ploy.

Yeah the name sounds childish, but since when is "Easy to Use" Dumbed Down?

IMHO, youīll hardly get anything better than Reason 2.0, so I agree with Jared there.
A DJ friend of mine mainly uses Cubase VST, though that would cost you around 100 bucks, which I guess puts it out of your reach, and then uses WaveLab to master the recordings and burn them on CDīs...
I guess it all depends on how seriously your taking your wish to start producing. But yeah, for starters Reason is your best bet.

I didnīt know that MTV program, but from what Iīve seen it is a new version of a program I used a bit about two years ago, called MUSIC2000, also from Jester and released by CodeMasters. All I can say is that, for serious music production, itīs a bit too basic, but for an introduction, it might not be that bad. I mean, with MUSIC2000, I could sample stuff from some of my CDīs and then twist those samples around, creat my own riffs or sequences, and I actually got around to making 4 or 5 cool songs...at least the people who heard them seemed to enjoy it...

Is this "Reason" program easy to learn to use?

Cuz right now (Im no good at mixing, but i try!, and share my tunes :D) I use FruityLoops to make beats and Mixman Studio to mix em.

If reason is easy to learn, and better, ill try it out.
