Winmx Chatroom Name Cloning.

I am so god damn pissed off .

I sometimes go into the winmx chat rooms and today i went into a room and someone had cloned my name.

Here is an example.

If i have my name as say (Evil)344_91207

someone else can have the exact same name but with different numbers at the end.

like this (Evil)344_56217.

This made me furious as the person that did it to me was very rude to someone else and i got the blame of it.

I think the winmx developers should totally fix this cause its really bad.

i think its bc you click on the chatroom name more than 2x. i do that all the time tho, bc i can't tell when its loading the chat room or not. so just click twice, give it some time, and it should all be ok.

Yeah i know what your saying but I know the person who cloned my name. he thought it was funny. I don't though.

All i'm saying is that the winmx developers should make it so that no 2 people can have an identical name.

im pretty much a veteran to the mx chat and yea....u do get those jerk offs who think its cute to clone ur user name and talk all kinds of trash to ppl. then u get the host ready to kick u out, ppl are mad at u cuz they think ur bein a c[!ckhead to um and all sorts. but most of the ppl in the rooms are regulars and know haters/copycats when they see um.

NOTE: if ur on mx u may want to check ur own shared files every so often by browsing urself in a chat. sometimes ghost files appear in ur folder. it can be really emberassing because gay porn files, kiddie files, and such things appear in ur folder every once in a great while and even though u dont actually have them on ur hard drive, ppl will see them when they browse u.

Yeah you dont need to tell me about ghost files, they have been bugging me for months . I started a thread about it way back in august.

i read ur post on the ghost files. i agree, freshing my shared folders only made it worse. so i only share my folder with ppl i know, who know i dont have really have that crap. oh well, i dont get them like i use to anyway. thanks for the link.

Umm... It's not refreshing your SHARED folders, that doesn't do anything, rather it's refreshing your CONNECTION.

Go to NETWORKS and click Refresh. (not the shared files area, but the NETWORKS area.)

Anyway, it's only if you are secondary connection that you get that. Primary does not have it.

By the way, the reason why someone can clone your name (except for the last digits) and that there is no way to 'register' your nickname to prevent others from using it is because winmx chat is completely decentralized. It's not like IRC or MSN where there is a central chat server with a database of names. Winmx's chat has NO central server. It's all a collection of peers, the room hosts are individual users themselves, spread all across the world, and their own home pc is hosting the channel. This is why no one could subpoena winmx to turn over any info on you or any user, they don't have any info since it's not hosted with them. It's one of the only systems with true decentralized chat.

well, ive done both...NETWORKS and SHARED FILES.. but it doesnt really matter anymore to me cuz i dont get um anymore. and if i do, its in that funky writing. i like the secondary connection. primary, for me, gets all screwed up. the only time i use it is if to help redirect a room until the regular host is finished doin what they gotta do.

Be glad that at least the name hash was different, because there is a way to make an exact duplicate.

Now those are the ones that can be annoying. Thats why I never distributed the tool its packaged with, to much destructive potential.

Its another reason I run the RCMS it blocks the clone prog, and does not allow even name matches in room.

yeah one of Vladd's buddies taught me how to exactly duplicate user names including hash. I'm not going to say how to do it, but lets just say be careful with those lower case L's and upper case I's...
if someones just copying your name with different hash file, then thats just plain retarded. It should be pretty obvious its a fake, and any decent room host will be able to tell from the IP address that its an imitator.

I have the same problem with Kazaa although there are no chatrooms I get annoyed when I see somebody purposely copy my username. Whenever I see another defaultuser@kazaa uploading off of me I immediatley canel them. (j/k)
