We don't have anyone, so technically it's okay to fileshare here in Canada. Thats also why when a network becomes popular most ppl move there business to either Europe, Mexico, or here.

Yep, nothing to intrude on my filesharing here yet.
But when something happens in or to the US, we are usually the first country affected by it.
Which is kinda gay

it is funny. and when I turn my stovetop on the burner normally gets hotteer than my hand when I fall asleep on it.
and the canadians... I couldnt quote numbers without speaking entirely out of my ass, but I doubt that there are enough filesharers in Canada to justify the mpaa or riaa going after them. but then, remember, they are already trying to gt access to overseas records and such. and god knows what else.
so. just because you are in canada doesnt mean you are any safer doing your thing then any of us in the usa are...

Do Canadiens ever make music? Or the rest of the world for that matter? Is the US the only country that makes music albums?
I went to France a couple years ago as an exchange student and they had some of their own music, but most of it was in English (that doesn't mean it's American, but most of it is over there). I was the only one who knew what the words meant to most of the music on the radio. They like listening to it just as much though.
Yeah, I've heard that Stanford University alone has more P2P users than all of Canada or something crazy like that. The internet is soo mainstream in America. France is about the only other country that even comes close in percentage or internet users per entire population.

Your numbers must be outdated. Canada is only 1.4% behind the US in Internet users per capita and both countries are surpassed by various Scandinavian nations.

I live in Austrailia, but i still am a bit wary about downloadin music of KaZaA etc. I think being in Aust protects me a bit from the RIAA and all that because of all the different laws and that they have no realy juristriction in other countries, as far as i know.

Is that right? It makes sense I guess. I read that in an article, I'll have to look for the link, it was a while ago. Scandenavia beats the US? That's pretty amazing. The internet rate seems higher than the literacy rate nowadays.

Alrighty, im gonna answer a few q's
First, Krell, what is so funny, the fact that my government isnt siding with monopolizing assholes that are trying to limit your freedoms? Or is it just because im canadian? I mean, my ISP wont rat me out. My government wont make hacking other's PC's legal.
The infamous one - Its hard to beleive, but canadians make music too!, and if you went overseas, you would notice music is created there too!
Before asking a stupid question like that again, look beyond the US border.
Gorphon - In the future (5 years) we are going to have the fastest internet connections available to the public in the world. We will be on the RIAA's hitlist soon enough.
As for safety, If the RIAA tries hacking any people outside the US, they will get lawsuit after lawsuit to deal with. They will be criminals, because unlike your country of "Freedoms", our gov. isnt trying to pass a bill to invade your PC.
If this offended you in any way, be reasonable and dont flame me. Its just that some of you ask stupid q's will get cocky sounding answers back.

I live in Australia and we have ARIA which is like RIAA, except in their latest press release they say the reason for the CD sales slump is due to competing technology products like mobile phones and so on. ARIA praises the internet as a potential music distribution domain. ARIA's only piracy concern is about bootlegged cds from indonesia. The ACCC (also in australia) is the govenment body looking after consumer rights, it has beaten sony and many other copyright oliogopolies for the right for all cds to be abled to copied for the purpose of backing up any cd! Downloading music off the internet is not illegal as long as you own the CD, so if RIAA ever busted me I would just by the CD and it would be 100% legit. One last word, America encourages a freemarket as long as it suitts themselves eg RIAA who is acting rather facist in there treatment of human beings!

Come guys... Music composing is from all over the world, not just from the US...
Take a look at Avril Lavigne (Canada), Shakira (Mexico), Cafe Tacuba (Mexico), NTM (France) ... Well just to name very little few of GREAT music composers !
Anyway... about the internet... let me laught... Take a look a europe biggest net : "Geant", which speed is much greater than the so called "Internet 2"...
Come on Guys... let's face it... US DOES NOT RULES THE WORLD... not even internet.
Note: I'm note from canada, not from france... not even from europe.

I know... i know :S
But... if they ever go to war vs. Iraq...
I think their position will definitly change...
If they think they're the leaders... they shouldn't wage a war and kill our rights... they should lead us to peace and freedom...

I thought Shakira was Columbian?
Well dunno from what i've read Canadians are going to be in the same boat soon...that and Candian artists are signing with American labels?
Europe is getting hit hard too EU is following step too don't ya have CD-R taxes?
It's Industry clout and money that are speaking. Of the RIAA Bertlesman that i know of i belive is based in Germany. They were made more to public eye in thier bid to purchase Napster.
Fingers shouldn't be pointed as more as should be helping each other out.

Yep... from what I heard Europe is going to place high tax. on CD-R/W and CD/DVD-R/W drives...
I've once heard that it would even be illegal to sell CD-DVD-R/W drives ... but I think that this law has not passed and I dont think it will ever pass... but the thing about the tax. I'm pretty sure it'll be a reality...

Hmm, I honestly didn't know, how much music Canadiens made, I'm sorry if I sounded like I had a "holier than thou" attitude, it was completely unintended.

Neil Young, The Band (members of including Robbie Robertson), Joni Mitchell, The Guess Who, Ann Murray, Ian & Sylvia, and the country legend Hank Snow are all from the great country of Canada. And don't forget the great musician and keyboard extraordinaire (damn what a word) Paul Schaeffer from the Letterman show,

First of all, every country has an RIAA. Here it's called AEPI. They just don't act mad like RIAA does.
Also, let me inform the people overseas that most (if not all) of the "electronic sounds" (house, techno, trip hop, ambient, etc) are created in Europe. Also I can't stop naming groups that made history that are not american. (Rolling stones, U2, Beattles, Pink Floyd, Cure...................). Music is global!
About the taxes thing.... yes. We will pay in the near future. But Who cares. I only pay 10 euros for 50 cds!
