Is it just me, or are other people who use XP getting annoying messages from Messenger Service? These are either porn messages or "messenger service stoppers" or "stompers." I hope I am not alone in this. I fear that my computer might be open to crackers or something like that, so I'd really like some info on what is going on. :cross :devil :cross :devil
By the way, if you are getting these menger adds, you can stop them by opening the command prompt (under accessories) and typing
net stop messenger

First, disable Messenger by following the directions given at this site (http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm) (for windows xp).
Then run either ad-ware or spybot to delete any spyware on your computer.
Then, get a good ad blocker like adshield or a good firewall like sygate.

To disable: Start --> Control Panel --> Performance and Maintenence --> Administrative Tools --> Services --> Messanger.
Double Click on that Service. Change the Startup type to disabled and click on the Stop button.
Problem ended.
EDIT: (Dang PiRaNeTuS you beat me by 2 minutes.)

Here is a story on The Register.com about this. and the companys who do it. It also states that just disableing the service leaves the "RPC" (Remote Procedure Call) function still active. Check it out.
