Well, I just saw some crap on the news about that bill allowing people to be fined and arrested for ANY content they've downloaded illegally since the beginning of time.

Check your local stations for more info or search Google.

Just a heads up people, this could be all to real soon enough....even if they only target a few it's still a roadblock for us.

Peace

Is this the same bill they've been pushing since the Summer of 2002?

I don't know, I'm kind of spooked. Getting freebies on the internet isn't worth the hassle of being fined, definetly not worth going to jail over. The plight of the freeloader is not something I want to loose my freedom over.

I don't really worry about it, if anythin, it makes me download even more juz to stick it to the RIAA etc that P2P is here to stay. Anyway, i don't live in da USA and i am under 18, so they can't send me to jail, and i am poor as all hell, so i can't pay them anythin.

Info on it so far....

Fines from $750 - $60,000

Targets are people who download/share 60+ CD's

ISP's forced to turn over names and addresses/phone numbers of those SUSPECTED of copyright infringement. Don't even have to have proof....

This is a load of shit....a scare tactic, but it's been featured on the news and the balls rolling.

People better protest this shit somehow, it's invasive and pretty much is bullshit in every way.

Peace

hell. theyve been saying this same thing since about 2 years into clinton's presidency. the fact that it has surfaced again recently, on the front page and in 4 to 5 different threads in the forums though makes me wonder....

Ive said it before, two or three times now. it is a scare tactic. what will they do, arrest everyone?

Does PeerGuardian and blocking the RIAA's port range really protect one from being caught?

Exactly they want 'us' as a P2P whole to run like a deer in the head lights.

Split us up so all the 'scan' exploitable P2P app's get down to a manageable (arrest able) size.

My guess is if everyone stuck to their guns and didn't back down they'd maybe fine a few people who share and download so much each day that their ISP is seeing 128/256kbs going out at all times and whatever you got coming in at all times too.

Just the fact that it's gotten to the main stream media means they want it to be known which means they're not stupid, they know they couldn't arrest the world...lol

If no one backs down and no one accepts this crap (major file sharer or not) then it's safe to say they won't be truly killing P2P for good, they never could...

Sounds like a wonderful idea though, let's lock up people for using the internet! Put FS (File Sharer) 1763 in with Bubba the Gimp master..

No one will stand for it, just a question of whose willing to take the chance and risk it....be brave!

Exactly, what can the fvcks do... the gonna throw 160 million people in Jail? or fine them excessive amounts, so that they will never ever buy another cd?

Plus by forcing ISP's to give up private details, i am almost certain that is some form of breach of privacy, and me is glad im studying law, cause when they hit me with a fine of 750, ill know all the legal options, and will hit them back with a legal case thats gonna hurt them more. Because there is no fooking way im going to, and i can imagine most, are gonna allow the RIAA to pry into my private life, if i wanna download a fvcking porno im gonna i really dont care about them, and the best thing is i have zero assets, so i can just refuse to pay, and being under 18, the worst their gonna do is give me community service WOW!!! which looks good on your resume if u dont mention it was forced :P. Its kinda simple, if 160 million keep downloading and ignore the RIAA they are powerless, because ultimately they answer to us, and if they fvck off all the consumers, the artists are quickly gonna learn to shove it to them... Power to the People!!!

Music companies are not going to put the people most dedicated to their product in jail.

Several years ago before Napster I ran a FTP site where you got the password by clicking banners (ya i know how much they suck). I offered the current Top 40 billboard songs and had to have had hundreds of uploads a day. My IP address was perfectly visable and I went doing this for almost a month.

Finally the RIAA or whomever it was caught on and sent a cease and desist letter. Pretty much they just informed my ISP i was doing something illegal and suggested i stop if i wanted to avoid any further issues. I took down the FTP server and the problem was solved.

And if you were to be taken to court you could easily say you accidentially allowed file sharing because you thought it was required to download the songs you wanted in MP3 format that you already had on CDs.

Once again problem song.

Hey look RIAA! I'm listening to your product right now! Make it cheaper and easier for me to use and i'll be buying more of it!
