sorry guys but this program sucks, for the following reasons:

1- media player doesnt work.

2- shows all variable bitrate mp3 as being 128kbs

3- only has popular music, mainly current chart music, no rare stuff

4- cant cancel the downloads of a leecher. i used this for a couple of days and every second downloader was leeching. piolet is a leechers paradise.

5- userbase and selection is too small compared to e.g winMX

on the other hand it looks good, and is VERY easy to navigate.

and the speeds dont "kick ass" like how everyone says they do.

1: what idiot uses a built-in media player? besides, its worked for me when i did use it. download winamp and try that.
2: why is that a problem?
3: yes, there is a difference between piolet and soulseek.
4: so is kazaa (a leecher's paradise), but nobody whines about it like this.
5: what did you expect? winmx has been out for 5 years i'd guess, blubster has been out for about 1. PLUS, its music only.

but, yes sockfulloflove, the speeds are not as awesome as everybody says.

i found a zebrahead song on piolet that i couldnt find on kazaa. it was a pretty rare song..

I agree with sock.. the "kick ass" speeds just aren't there for me. I download maybe at 30k at the most on that program when i can get 180k... its just not there for me and so i use winmx =)

1: what idiot uses a built-in media player?

the kind of idiot who uses Piolet obviously, since Piolet comes with a media player. duh

2: why is that a problem?.

most of my music is high bit rate VBR, no point sharing it if its just labelled as 128kbs, Now this IS a problem, more and more people are ripping VBR, its stupid to have a music only app which cant recognise VBR. This is the biggest fault - i might even use piolet if it wasnt for this.

3: yes, there is a difference between piolet and soulseek.

AND?

4: so is kazaa (a leecher's paradise), but nobody whines about it like this..

go to the kazaa forum and whine about it then.

5: what did you expect? winmx has been out for 5 years i'd guess, blubster has been out for about 1. PLUS, its music only.

it still has a crap selection. winMX has more music.

You forgot about the fact that it simply won't connect for many people. Even those without routers. Even those who opened all ports Piolet requires. Even people who have no problem connecting to any other network, including eDonkey. Obviously, I'm not a fan of Piolet.

Also, the fact that there are many leeches on Kazaa doesn't seem to be a big problem, as it is the most efficient network. Most files I've downloaded on Kazaa (porn, appz, and gamez) start immediately, and my download speeds are faster than on any other network.

If router thing isstill buggy like blubster was when I tried it, then I guess Piolet not for me either.

the kind of idiot the downloads piolet:
if you waited for the 4.5mb file to download, knowing it had mcafee bloatware, then it is your fault for complaining. remember when 1.2.3 was the best? yea, THAT media player sucked.

more and more ppl are ripping vbr:
i haven't found a vbr song with more than one source on winmx, so, it cant be that popular.

AND?:
and if you can't deal with a bigger selection of pop music than rare, than u need to go to soulseek. winmx has a bigger selection of pop than rare. the amount of rare stuff is mostly to do with the number of users and files.

go to the kazaa forum and whine about it then:
you're the only person whining about leeches. i don't use kazaa, so i dont care.

it still has a crap selection. winMX has more music:
i thought that is what i said. what a rocket scientist.

I dunno about you guys (well I do now thanx to this thread), but i get fine speeds on Poilet. I have a 100k connection and am usually doing between 60 and 80k. Also, Id put up with a lot of faults if it meant not having to go to kazaa for everything. I hate Sharman, and even if I use KL, Im still supporting their network. Also, (some of) you guys seem obbsessed with bitrate labels. Can you really tell the difference between 192 and up? Maybe it's just that my ears are blasted out...
Anyway, peace.:tilted

The reason you don't notice leeching on Kazaa is because there are so many users on it. Probably like 15% of all users on Kazaa share, but that 15% is bigger than Blubster's userbase and probably larger than anything out there.

Because there are so many users on Kazaa you don't get hits for files that are "Busy" or "In Queue". Your files in your search results are always availiable because of that.

Kazaa's network and client are FAR from efficent, it's just that it's large user base and file base make up for any of it's "in-effienciences".

Lastly, I recommend Shareaza (http://www.shareaza.com) over Piolet anyday.

All good opinions and all valid complaints. I do use Piolet and its Ok. WinMX however, may have more selection, but what good is selection when you have to wait in line for hours. Between Kazaa, Piolet, and others, I can get the music I wan't and still in less time than WinMX.

Seriously, WinMX is utterly useless now. Shareaza and Kazaa [Lite] is pretty much all you need. And maybe eMule on occassion.

Hmm, utterly usless. is that why I can get lots of high qualiy mp3, videos, and movies, and anything else I want. If you are known as a person that shares, you usually have no problem.

Yeah, I dont understand whats the deal with this software. i have tried to insta ll the dam thing 3 times and on servera PC's and could never even get the dam thing to connect. Plus now I read that the speeds aren't that good. is this progrm only used dling mp3' or can you dl other types of files?

Nothingface5384
January 25th, 2003, 08:01 PM
it really never was...even when 1.2.3 was out..just like gnutella w/ the flucuations..but jumped to higher kbs jumping to high kbs straight back to low
The thing that really pisses me off about blubster/piolet is the inaccuracy of reporting bitrates! ..all vbr, mentioned above somewhere..reports as 128...and some of my files report 0 or some odd number!

Piolet is DEFINITALLY an over rated program. Doesn't crash and burn like Blubster did, but that didn't make up for the fact that the media player blows, the selection isn't much different than KaZaA (in terms of music obviously), and everytime I start the damn thing it scans my files all over again (with as many mp3s as I have, this is annoying.. especially because it slows down my computer in the process).

On a lighter note, the chat community is pretty good. :tilted

iptables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -p udp --dport 41170:41350 -j ACCEPT iptables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 41170:41350 -j ACCEPT

'Select UPD as your transport protocol, if this is not available choose something that isnŐt TCP/IP'

Piolet, like blubster, relies heavily on the UDP protocol instead of TCP, so that's why it has difficulties with routers.

He claims this makes MANOLITO faster and more 'anonymous'

You know, blubster had a well known name, and a pretty good reputation, so I don't know why it was changed to yet another dumb name. Pee-o-lay. Reminds me of Puff Daddy becoming the even more stupid P-Diddy. They should have just gone with Blubster II or something. Who knows. But instead, switching just alienates some of the current users and gives people a reason to go out and try other programs and never return. And give people the opportunity to say "the new one sucks". I can understand if your name was Morpheus, that you'd wanna change it, but despite its smaller user bade, blubster had staunch advocates all over the place.
