What is a "dvd screener"? I am currently downloading * ****, which also has 'dvd screener' in the title. I really thought that this movie hadn't been out long enough to be "burnable", but I found it at FastTrack.
It will take me at least 2 more days to get it with this 56K....should I keep downloading or wait for a different file?
The GREAT news is....cable was out all day <ok.....that's bad> BUT rumor is that they are upgrading so that soon I'll be flying on cable access! woooooooohooooooooooo!
In the meantime....I don't want to spend the whole weekend downloading a bogus file.
Suggestions? THANKS in advance.......

Can you be a little more obvious, im not sure we get the hint . ..please type in all caps the movie name again for us . . mmmkay? Oh, and let me give you the MPAA phone number while were at it. (818) 995-6600 Invite em all over, we'll all have tea.
Usually movies will indicate whether or not it is, but it doesnt hurt to PM someone to ask. Sometimes, its a fabulous copy, but from a DVD store, it it has a big banner saying WARNING . .blah blah blah . . . pops up every few minutes.
But then again, this IS * **** we're talkin about.
mmmkay?

LadyPainter I think what Krell is trying to say is that you shouldn't ever post what you are downloading if it is copyrighted. Ever. If I were you I would edit that post and blank out the copyrighted name.
DVD screeners in my opinion are usually worth the download. They usually look and sound great.. but then you get some idiot who doesn't know what their doing or does a quick job just to get it out and it looks and sounds terrible. Obviously you are downloading a copy of the movie for a back up (hint hint play along) because your legal copy of it was damaged so you have every right to get a decent copy.
I've spent whole weekends (hell I've spent whole weeks) downloading files only to find that they are bogus... it happens.. alot (especially on FastTrack). A patient person like me hardly ever gets upset when it happens, but if you are getting cable very soon then WAIT! I don't see the point in downloading for days and slowing down your regular 'net access when you can just wait a few days and have normal 'net activity only to download the movie in 2 hours or less when your cable is activated again.

In response to your original question: If the file is actually what the name says it is, then you should continue downloading as it is very high quality. "DVD Screener" means that it is a digital copy of the movie that is shown in the private screening room prior to the film's public release. On the other hand, if the file has the word "CAM" in the title, it means it was taken by someone standing in a movie theater with a video camera and the quality will be terrible.

I was under the impression that DVD Screener was actually a misnamer used by the release groups and actually refers to DVD Copies which are given to two groups of people at around the same time as the movies cinema release....
1) Notable Film Critics so that they can write reviews ready for its release by watching it in the privacy of their home
2) Academy Award Members so that they can see it before they vote on the winners for the Oscars(which explains why there are so many dvd screeners available at the minute)
I wasn't aware that it had anything to do with private screenings shown in film companies' private screen rooms. I can't imagine the Academy Award Members taking kindly to being herded into one of those cinemas to watch it and surely they would use a normal cinema reel for a full screen projection not a dvd with a player.

Shelob...that makes sense. I'll let everyone know how the quality turns out...it should be finished sometime today.
Al13...I got the dat file from FastTrack, and it was rated 5 stars, so it can only be so bad, huh?
I personally haven't (in my short life of downloading movies) found any mis-named titles at FastTrack, although I'm sure there are some. I do try to stick to the ratings that rate a full 5 star.
Thanks for your help, guys....
Krell.......I get it....whomever.......derrrrrrrrr.........should have looked at the edit closer.....I assumed it was you....
Thanks, CCSDude ;-)
Hang in there with me guys, I'm learning....promise!

BTW....glad I kept downloading, because the cable STILL is out, and who knows when we will be able to even sign up for the computer once they DO get it back up. Even then we will probably be on a huge waiting list...o well...at least I know it IS comming
