Yeah, this ain't P2P related, but this is the only "General Discussion" forum here at ZP, so...

What is everybody's opinion on the Elizabeth Smart, missing Utah 14-year-old story topping the headlines for the past two weeks?

Read this story about the younger sister's changing story ( http://www.timesdispatch.com/wire_redirect.shtml?http://wire.ap.org/?SLUG=MISSING%2dGIRL ) and read this story about the father leaving the garage door open that night (http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/06/17/missing.girl/index.html ).

I think that the family itself is involved. The younger sister probably didn't say a word to the "kidnapper" because the suspect was a usual family member, maybe even a frequent visitor to Elizabeth's room (if you get me drift, YUCK!). The parents are probably covering the whole truth up by initially lying about the younger sister being threatened at gun point.

Previous week's evidence shows that the garage door was left open for two hours that night, supposedly by the father, and the "escape route," a window, had the screen cut from the inside. HELLO! That just don't add up as a kidnapping for me. More like foul play.

Elizabeth Smart is probably dead, unfortunately, and the true story of what lead up to this "kidnapping" and what actually happened in that bedroom two weeks ago is going to come out and I think the entire country will be sickened by the truth.

As for the girl's body, I would guess police will find it only miles from the house in a well thought-out hiding place that has already been overlooked once or twice.

Opinions?

Although I have'nt followed this story very closely I have to agree with you Wess. There's alot of things that don't add up and I fear the worst has happened to this innocent young girl. Being the father of 3 young children myself it sickens me to no end to think that the parents may actually have something to do with this. As this story unfolds we can only pray for this young girl and hope that the guilty involved are brought to justice with the law and the Creator.

Crazy Horse:

It seems this morning that the focus is on a handyman who worked on the house a year ago. Now, while the media is making it sound like this is the prime suspect, I still wouldn't be surprised if he is dropped from investigation and the family is looked at again. At this point, it's too early to tell. We're talking about a city where its people often keep things hidden or quiet in their community.

We'll see...

At this point there are still a lot of possibilities. Although I do fear the worst for this child.

Here's an interesting Slashdot commentary about how the media focuses so hard on one tragedy, but not another. This Elizabeth Smart case sparked it apparently:
