It sounds to me like you have a firewall in action, blocking the ports those progs use. I have a few questions:
- How do you connect to the internet? Do you dial in or do you have broadband (DSL, Cable, T1)?
- Is your computer connected to a network?
- Is your internet connection shared with any other computers in your house? (This is only possible if your computers are networked.)
- Finally, IF you connect to the internet through a dial-up connection (56k, etc), please do the following to find out if Windows' firewall is enabled:
Click on the Start Menu in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen.
Highlight Settings -> Network Connections -> Your Dial-Up Connection (Might be the only connection listed)
With your dial-up connection highlighted, right-click and select properties.
Select the Advanced Tab in the window that pops up. Note whether or not the box next to "Protect my computer and network by limiting..." is checked. If it is, uncheck it and click OK.
Try out WinMX and KaZaa Lite now and report back here on whether or not you are able to connect.
Get to work soldier! :-P

My guess is you've deleted winsock (Kazaa original version alterers it so I'm figuring it planted it's vile name somewhere in there).
Either pop your XP disk in and hope that it comes to the rescue replacing and fixing missing original system files or find winsock on the net for XP.
Hope this helps, but give Jared's reply a try first.

look for winsock, and make sure that the win firewall is off... looks like this problem might be a corrupted file too... deleting files and folders is generally a bad idea, esp. in windows' system folder.

If you have a firewall like ZoneAlarm or Sygate running, disabling XP's crappy internal firewall is ok.
DON'T use Compaq's disks unless you're willing to format and start from scratch. Everything on your drive will be lost once they're autoboot crap loads, formats, installs again.
Krell: I'm in, PM me with the details of this new concept forum.

Follow Jared592's lead. It doesnt mean you have to disable permanently, just as a diagnostic measure. He is doing the first things first, with my full endorsement. Give him the info please.
