Hey there guys, I just d/l TRILLIAN, which I guess most of you know this tiny application. For them who don't, Trillian is an application that lets you connect to a multiple set of messengers like yahoo, msn, irc, icq, aol. you can sign on to all of this at once.
Well my problem is that I was trying to configure it so more than one user can make use of this app. but couldn't do it.
See, when you use msn, aol messengers you got the option to switch users and you will get connected with your own custom settings ( list of buddies, blah, blah ), when I was configuring Trillian it did give the option to put more than one user but I don't see where you switch users. I went to their homepage and did not find the answer.
Is Trillian configured for just one user?
If anybody knows how, let us know,

I don't think so, sadly... unless you connect to each service individually. To do that click on each service button (usually at the bottom unless you are using a skin), and go to connection manager. If you have not done so already, click 'Add' and pick each service you would like to add. Then choose which you want and click 'Connect' (you may have to do this multiple times). Other than that, I don't know.
By the way, I have a *cough* crack *cough* for you if you want Trillian Pro (PM me if you want it). Good luck and I will continue look for what you ask (although I don't think it exists).

I had never tried trillial and up till now had thought it was just another p2p program like WinMX. It is for this reason that I am now downloading and using each of these program's I hear about and also for the experience which may enable me to help others.
Thanx for the head's up el_omega...

I saw this post earlier, and didn't reply...but I would have to agree with MoonMan here, I think that is the only way.

Heard only a few neg comments on this prog, such as weird CPU usage spikes like to 30% and/or 100%, but they also said it is good on RAM, so your input would be appreciated, if the good far outweighs the neg then i may have to give this prog a try, thx in adavance
O yeah, also hear it has some issues w/ ICQ at times, let me know what, if any, kind of issues you've encountered

trillian is a great prog. Especially if you use more than one Chat program. i also like the skinning features, makes it so I can blend it in with my desktop better.

I have used mulitple screen names which is the same as mulitple users and it works as moonman said, but it can glitch on you once in awhile. But it does work.

In Trillian Pro:
Under your General Preferences click on Profiles. If you only got one profile set up it'll most likely be named "default", with the settings "no" password, and auto-login "yes". Just use Add, Edit, or Remove to manage other profiles.
The regular Trillian supports different profiles as well. So, the above should apply too.

Yes, it is the same in Trillian free version but it doesn't work.

I can set up another user but when your connecting it is only the main user that gets the option to do so.
Well, I guess you can not configure for more than one user and no I don't want the Pro version, I will stick with msn messenger as one of the guys said most my friends use msn.
Thanks for all comments posted.

Question: Is any of the profiles you created set to auto-login? If yes, set it to "no". When launching Trillian you should get a login screen asking which profile to run. No need for Trillian Pro, this works in the free version as well.

CPU spikes are extremely rare. I seem to be one of two users (at least who've reported it) who experience these regularly (Whenever a new IM window opens). It is very good RAM usage though, especially if you used to run three or four IM programs at once, like I used to. It has many very good features that I find especially useful.
For instance, buddy aliasing allows me to rename anyone on my contact list to whatever I want them to be, which has proven very useful for when one person may have multiple SN's. There's also the auto-logging of all convos, and secureIM provides 128-bit encryption over ICQ (it was also under AIM, but AOL I believe instituted a block on using that with their networks). Then there are the nice programmable timestamps, which allow you to totally customize what info is shown if you want to add timestamps to conversations. Those are just a few of the nice features that it has.

ullo,
ok i dont like trillian never will, i use all the different chat programs cause they have different pros and cons. ie yahoo has the best (in my eyes) webcam service but eyeball chat has a huge range of webcam users as the whole system is based on it. icq has free sms and so on, msn has a nice gui and aim is good to talk to those not-so-used-to the net ppl.... so y use a program that restricts all those pros/cons? lol i personly run 7 chat programs at once... and all for different reasons and i never saw a reason yet to use a program like trillian to bundle tham all.. ntw there was another program that did that but had webcams too a while back see if anyone knows of it in this forum ay? might be interesting to look at lol.... anyways thats my input and if u dont like it just ignore it lol freespeach and all that crap :P ciao

Oh, my god.
Cant believe there so many people that do not know about trillian. I ve been using that prog for 2-3 yrs now. Its super cool and improving more and more. And now trillian pro has some really neat features. U all know that u can aslo (if u dont have the money) punch it in kazaa search field ... and get the pro even patch B for the pro....
No ads, no spyware... and I hate the goddamn AIM -- its a piece of shit -- ugly as the girl from my big fat greek wedding :))) But anyways the advantage of trillian is that it connects you to all the IM services that you need, comparted to loading FIVE different programs, working in your system tray -- pop ups and .. all kind sof crap. EVERYBODY, please do try it -- this is the MESSENGER. And it has really tight skins.
peace all my *****s :)))

I can't stand Trillian, it's absolute crap. I’m totally confused as to why so many people use it. I still think that Windows Messenger is the best looking one and the one with the most features. If you HAVE to connect to more than one client at a time I would recommend Easy Message Express (http://www.easymessage.net/)

YEAH !!!! Right. That piece of crap wont even connect. It has almost NO flexibility, it has no options to adjust if you are behind a firewall. You cant even change the serve or the port for the different accounts. Thats lame. Nowadays alot of poeple are behind a firewall and need to quality service, not a cheap crap -- 200k, I mean 4-5 cleints -- 200 k -- what do u expect from that ...
Be real man. have u at least tried the trillian Pro -- its awesomer and interms of interfase -- ther eis no messenger that has as nice skins as Triallian.

Yes I have tried Trillian Pro, and it's horrible. The interface is ugly, it doesn't let you change you rfont type, it doesn't let you know when a contact has come online (all it does is make a noise, gimme a break), and the emoticons are ugly. No way, I can't stand Trillian, Pro or not.

Ugly interface - > remedy (http://trillian.cc/skins/index.php)
Lack of alerts options? Ever looked into Preferences -> Events -> Advanced? You'll find the following Action Types to customize alerts:
Sound
Execute Window
Alert Window
Systray Alert
Set Status
Program Action
So, you've tried the program, huh?

You don't think I've tried all of that? I couldn't get it configured to show the username and e-mail of the person that would signon, or any skins that looked like the Windows Messenger one. I still think Windows Messenger is the best.

Trillian has skins, I hate the default skins myself, but I have found some skins, like Bleu, or Aikon squared, that I really do like. If none of the skins out there suit you, you have the power to make your own. That's the beauty of Trillian, it lets you decide about how it looks.

I have used trillian for a while and I really like that software and not having to connect to several different mediums. I just upgraded to version .74 b/c I was having connection issues with .73 and yahoo and since I have done that everything stays connected now. But I was lookin for a version of trillian pro with a serial and/or a reg, can anyone help? I also use eyeballchat as well b/c it hook into msn, aim, yahoo, and its web cam based but you have be useing the same interface in order to you the feature. The populace on that medium isn't that big either.

I absolutely, positively hate not having my conversations logged. I tend to always look back on logs for quotable quotes to use later. only YIM and ICQ have auto-logging, the bulk of my conversations were on AIM and some on MSNM. I was losing some very important things by sticking with seperate messangers. Trillian offered global logging as well as support for most features. All it really needs to be complete IMHO, is voice chat support, and a fix for cams. Those were the only other features I used that weren't already included.
As well Trillian Pro has a plugin based interface, you want it to do something it doesn't currently do? Bust out a C/C++ compiler and make yourself a plugin to do it. There's some nice SDK documentation as well as a sample plugin's source code on the site for you to download. I have yet to see any other IM aside from YIM to offer skin support, and I no other IM offers plugin support.
GAIM is the closest thing to trillian, but it's not even available for windows (well in non-beta form). So I'll stick with trillian thank you very much.

Ok well firstly if you dont have Plus! v2 installed on MSN messenger your not sain its the pest add on I've seen for ANY messenger program yet lol sorry my opinion... and secound devil chat has THE best skining options ive ever seen (i love the cow :$) also i agree with you fully on the voice chat and webcam fetures in trillian if they fix them up i MIGHT sway lol i like all my different chat programs though and i love the logging in the Plus! for msn... trillian has a fair way to go till it gets my support again (i used it for 6 months) but if they get the web cam fetures cleaned up and voice in there then it will get a fair few more people.. maby even me again ;) and one last question does trillian have the chat fetures for all the messengers they support? been coupla months since i used it and i dont wana install it again it has a "few" conflicts with thinking my tv capture card is a webcam every time i start it and im too lazy to fix it so it works again.

i checked out trillain once too, but decided it would not be worth my time to download, bc i really only use aol...
i only use msn to keep a good tab on my email, i dont have a yahoo! id anymore, and i forget, and dont care what my icq number is. i never use irc either.
so it made more sense to stick to aol im 4.8.2790 (cleaned up thanks to myim).

It doesn't currently support ICQ chat, I'm not sure about YIM. I know it suppports chat on MSNM (It doesn't tell you who else is in the conversation currently though) and AIM since those are the two I use most often. I'm hoping they do add some more features in 2.0 myself. The only problem is they just have two programmers working for them. They were hiring a while back but only one guy applied, when they switched to pay for Pro the decision really hit their popularity.
It still gets me by, so as long as I eventually get support for vchat and a fix for cams, I'll be happy, those are the only other features I use on other IMs. Though it'd be also nice if they'd improve the plugin engine, before they closed the plugin forum off there was a two page long thread of requests for functions to expand plugin capabilities.

lol i think this forum is comming to a general conclusion....... lol very simply trilliam is good (maybe great?) for some peoples chatting needs and for otheres (ie me) it falls short in a lot of areas lol and now i think i have killed the thread :P ok and just to add to it all i dont like trillian much at all :P lol basicly falls short for everything i need in a messenger and doenst support icq and the irc client is horrible lol i can go on but i wont i think uoi get the idea i dont like it lol anyways... ciao

Well i have been using trillian since version .635 and i hate all the original messengers. Its great for me, low cpu usage easy on ram and i also have a simple irc client on it side acces to all mayor messengers. And with pro i have plugins wich i love.
I have tried most of the other im's that have all in one like miranda, wic and many others and i dont think they match trillian.

Well theres a plugin for the notifications of when people get on, theres skin taht change the interface and many of them, i personally hate the default one. Emotions and font are set by skins so you just basically need a skin that you like.
