its way too slow. I only have aim, and ares on it. i have like 50 files. whats the fastest operating system?

98 is the fastest on a crap computer

The only way to go back, is to completely reformat your hard drive, and install from scratch

If you want to stick to XP for a while, I suggest you check out a thread of mine, pay attention to the blk viper site, it should free up a TON of system resources, mine feels light years faster after I tweaked it

i will say this only once: Windows 2000 with sp3 is the ONLY microsoft os you should ever use.

xp is abysmal.

UBER-RAT: many people have had different experiences of xp. i find it to be the best os ive ever used, while my mates win2kpro laptop continually runs into problems. it depends on your setup and your usage.

i dont recommend xp unless youve got at least the recommended specs (not minimum) as it can be very slow on a slow computer.

if u want a fast os try win95 lol!!!!

If you werent prepared to learn to use XP, why did you go there to begin with? Unless you turn off the fade effects and services that you do not need, yes it may be slow. It is NOT however a bad O/S. Definately not abysmal.

You can either wait till Gerber comes out with a babyfood O/S, or learn to use XP, it's that simple. XP, btw is a lot more intuitive and capable when installing devices and more stable in multitasking.

In any respect, put your W2000 CD in, boot from it, wipe out your partitions, make a new one, format, reinstall. Then reinstall all of your drivers. If you can do that correctly, I fail to see why you cant learn to configure XP.

I'm gonna have to agree with Krell. XP is the fastest and most stable OS that I have ever used and if you dont know how to use it to its full potenial then you're never make it with win 2000. Just make best with what you have.

Two questions.
1. Do you have SP1 installed
2. What's your PC specs (I wonder if Jorge could add a field in the profile for this?)

Thats one of the best ideas I have seen yet. I wanted to make a template to submit that help with the data input. I was going to make one for tech support questions too, . . both . . just kinda "fill in the blanks".

Honestly I get really tired of asking and saying the same things over and over again.

Same here.

I saw it on another site, and I was wondering if it could be put in on these forums.

Awesome idea ryan, I would either PM jorge about it, or make a thread in the feedback section, it would make life much more simple

Dude, Phalkon as well as others know ALL to well of my stance on XP. However, give him one rock solid fact to back up your claims.

As for me I'll stick to 2k and ME......

Now I suppose yer gonna say ME sucks, right?

Well, theres a simple response to that.....

Knowledgeable tweaking on ANY OS can make it stable. So my guess is you're at an AOL'er level just spouting off shit about stuff you know little of.

Get your facts straight and bring a valid fact with you, then challenge Phalkon and his overly tweaked XP system. ; )

Peace

I have it installed, and its been installed for over a year, IMO its the best OS I've ever used, I won't get into why I think its better because I've said my position too many times, but for me its great

Like CCS said, tweaking is the key, I've turned off all the shit I don't need, and this thing rocks (including turning off all built in spyware that I know of)

Anyway, who says I have to upgrade? its my choice whether I install updates or not

Do you honestly think 2k will be imune to DRM, and all that other shit MS is coming out with? absolutely not

old quote from another thread~>
"well, i would leave mine on for months at a time, but i have to reinstall windows every couple of months because of all the crap i do to it, i tend to tweak things just a little too edgy, so i end up restarting 5times in a day, leave it on for a week.........and so on"

and you need me to explain the faults with XP?

besides your not the thread starter, my comments were for that person.
stop tweaking XP and go tweak your head.

Take some advice and just cool off. When you come to a BBS when an attitude like you are mister 'Im so much more fucking smarter than you are', you aren't going to make friends or enjoy it here.

Just relax and respond sensibly, not like you are on a war path and Zeropaid is your site of conquest.

ok, keeping away from the squint issue...

CCS: i am no computer genius, after a format and reinstall of windows ME on my comp it was fine. after the install of klite, dreamweaver, office 2000 and avg however, it crashed periodically about every 2 hours. i think it depends on your hardware compatability with the os as well coz i have used xp for nearly 2 months now and ive seen only one blue screen, after a game install and not restarting before playing.

phalkon30
January 23rd, 2003, 09:02 PM
Squint, if I had 98, I would reinstall daily

And in case you didn't catch it, it was SARCASM! I only reinstall every month or so, which is due to me trying tons of beta software, or upgrading crap on an hourly basis

Its also not necessary for me to reload, I just prefer to have a clean registry to work with, its better for problem solving

I think I would shoot myself if I still ran 98, this thing would crash constantly

today was the first day i actually locked up XP!!! i was kind of excited to see that it could still be done! :-D
