KaZaA - people share fake stuff! WHY?!

Hello Peoples!

Has anyone ever noticed that people share fake stuff on KaZaA. For example I been downloadin 5 different files that claimed to be Simcity 4. None of them were infact that game. Three of them ended up being Jedi.... 2 and one was NHL 2002 and one was some gay home game I dont even know. Why do people share fake stuff? I never do!!!!!! :angel

I have tried downloadin Master of Orion 3. And they ended up being like games like Butt Monkeys in Ass Land and stuff like that.

I fanlly gots both games from my other source other than Kazaa. Well....I just want to hear from u guys. Do u guys share fake stuff? Or perhaps u want to stab a fake sharing nazi in the eye. I know I do!!!

Lesson 1: when downloading software eg games/applications off Fasttrack, ALWAYS use sig2dat links to download them because if they are fake, you will want to throw your PC through a window

i think most fakes are to do with peoples laziness, they just don't wanna rename a simple file or they even forgot about it or something. personally i have gone through all my 400+ files just to make sure i didn't have any miss named files or doubles!

but yes, i do hate people like that too!

that's why i only used emule/overnet and occasionally irc for huge stuff like that...THEN i share it through everything else. i'm not one to waste time.

What the hell is sig2dat links? And what is FastTrack?

I use eMule. My bro is huge on emule. We updates his movie collection evere 3 weeks. He now has 1903 movies burned onto CDR. They are VCD moviez. About 1,283 movies are Russian and Ukrainian and foreign, the rest american. But for some reason he can get fast downloads on emule and I cant. Usually about 2-3 kbps. On kazza I get 50-120 kbps. What is overnet? I never heard of it. Is it like Kazaa or more like emule? Fast? Can u tell me how to set it up all good and shit? I would appreciate it. Especially from you cpugeniusmv. You seem to use everything man. Can u hook a brotha up?

First off all get rid of KaZaA Media Desktop and download Kazaa Lite from www.k-lite.tk (http://www.k-lite.tk) that wiil give u up 2 40 sources and no spyware and other worthless crap then go 2 this website http://www.fasttrackmovies.com/ it will have verified files just click on them and it will load on your downlaod screen like if you searched for it... well that site was just for movies but there are many others look for them on k-lite the verifieds section on there forum... if you need anymore help let me know... :fire

I'm on 56k and I hate dead downloads. You would think people could be a little more conciderate with large files especially people who share their cd rom without a cd in it and write SHARE all over the place lol.

Im with ya on that one stuperfied.

I tried to get a game...couple hundred megs. The download crashed 3 days later. So I said what the hell....i got free time let me restart the download. Over a week later I finally unziped the game......didnt even work. Turns out it was the wrong game too!

What I dont understand is...not why would somebody share a fake file.....but why they would let me download from them continuously for days and days and days. I guess they have highspeed and dont care all that much..........but it just seems stupid. If anything... im taking up space in the queue. I know that would annoy the hell out of me.

I dont ever share fakes....but once in a while if i get a fake from someone....i will share another fake right back. They waste my time..i'll waste theirs (this is a rare event though). I cant exactly beat the (insert rude comment here) out of them so im not left with many options.

Also as comment to WinMX.......ive used it for years now....and usually never have a problem. Maybe a fake file once.....and i really wouldnt call if a fake file. It was an mp3...but it was a homemade (badly made lol) parody of the song i wanted.

But WinMX is getting worse with every Upgrade.... since they decided to connect you to the primary Mx network and not allow you to connect to any secondarys. Version 2 was the greatest...i had a huge server list....prolly close to or more than 100. 25-40 connected servers at a time...searches that returned thousands of hits.....

I think what you are refering to is Open Nap Protocol Networks which you can still use, just goto Networks tab and click on Open Nap Protocol Networks, then just add .wsx files which from this window you can use the find button to search the MX network for them or just simply hit import and sellect your old list.

There is a comprehensive list of Open Nap Servers right here in Zeropaid. I believe you will find what you are looking for here http://www.zeropaid.com/winmx/ if your interested.

Yup, Open Nap thats exactly it.

But now that WinMx decided to seperate those networks from its the main Mx network....they dont seem as popular as they used too. At the moment....with kazaa/winmx 3+ and misc. crap programs....OpenNap networks are right up there with private ftp's....ya know thing of the past in a way. I think the problem with the fake files is that the users sharing them (being newbies or whatever) either dont know about Open Naps or dont know how to connect to them...so everyone just jumps on the primary network and shares their "crap". Also with open naps being smaller (...less powerful...) networks..... ppl were cool. They wouldn't waste time on fake stuff. I mean you wouldn't spend a good amount of time in line to get on a 100 user or less network only to share fake stuff.......that would be pointless.

I may have to check out that list. I dont have mine anymore due to reformatting :-(. Actually u just reminded me of Napigator. I totally forgot bout that prog. Thnx!! Also after reformatting and not wanting to install kazaa and infect my comp again (even w/ adaware...fake dll's...firewalls and all) Open nap is just what i need to get back into the file sharing game!

handy hints for avoiding fakes
1 if u can get a verified # link
2 be wary if theres only one source sharing the file
3 get an avi previewer if dl large movie files at least you can preview file before wasting time
4 use commonsense if you see a file lord of the rings 3 matrix 2 etc and the film has not even been finished then its gonna be a fake

as to why ppl share fakes

Napigator, Napmx and programms like it are good but it's easier just to click the find button and it gives you 10's of thousands of server .wsx files almost immediatly and you can just download them like any other file and then click import and select it out of your folder that you downloaded it into.

Heaps easier than configuring for NapMX and Napigator BUT BE WARNED, if you add too many servers WinMX will lockup and then you will have to Uninstall and then Re-install winMX. I know cause it happned to me three times when I tried the new system for the first time.

Ok, so the seccond two were intentional so I could determin the true cause of the lockup lol.

I have to agree with those. Number 1 sounds good to me. I cant say for sure that that stuff happens......but im willing to believe it until im proven wrong. I really dont trust any big company's...gov...that kinda thing lol. Echelon is probably recording and sorting all our mssgs and search queries right now lol. (Nice to bomb you...Meet you. Nice to meet your bomb. Dont say bomb...i said bomb....Bomb?)

Also as a useful tip...I preview everything excpet for zip files and exe's (those dont work). But movies, music and other files (like ACE files...sometimes you can view incomplete archives..yay WinAce) I always preview. Just Rename .dat to whatever extension is needed and use DivxFix for all the "Big" Avi's. All the small ( couple mb's) avi and divx's u can just right click and preview in the property box (just as long as u got the right codec). Be prepared for Explorer to crash though (that happens alot) or to ctrl-alt-del explorer as it may freeze also.

Also as a dumb trick......OPEN your .dat file in Wordpad (notepad is too small). Then u can read the file names at the bottom of the document. Just becareful cause all that code will crash wordpad and/or your computer.........and its a bitch to scroll through that much code until u get to the file names.

Yup. I used to lock up the older versions for what seems like hours at a time. Them my computer (once it became stable and responded again ) would take like 10mins just to do a search. And dont even think about hitting the transfer tab while it was searching......nice big crash all over the place. Fun times!! lol

See now thats what File Sharing is all about. Screw this sissy kazza crap and highspeed modems. (click connect and have millions of users/files within a few minutes). People dont sweat and bleed for their files anymore. There is no work involved. File Sharing used to be an art. U could take pride in what you do and be rewarded for your efforts. Now a 5yr could log on and get practicly anything in 10 mins.Grrrr Sorry....got a little carried away.

Don't be sorry, I think everyone is dissapointed with the new system cause people download 1 file off 10 people and don't even have to put the effort into finding a source themselves or even into keeping it going anymore.

Also a I have just recieved a log of a chat where Experienced users are having a laugh at any and all newbies expense, Mascarading as a group of professionals in a help room on an irc they trick newbies in all sorts of cruel way's.

Attatched is a copy, and although I do not condone the abuse of Experience in the name of entertainment at a new users expense I do deep down inside however find it halleriously amusing.

I hope this posting will help to discourage the kind of damage and abuse detailed in the file attatched.

who cares who downloads what and how long it takes them to dowload reminds me of that old arguement between hispeed users and low speed users macusers /windows/linux users as long as your getting what YOU want why moan about what others are doing

Fakes are a new problem. I remember the old versions of direct connect (as example...i cant speak for the new versions). But on that prog you were lucky to connect to a sharing channel. Between the rude channel ops and the auto bots that would kick you if u didnt share at least 2 gigs worth.... you many not get connected at all. It was like a privelige to share. U were lucky if you could and you were glad that you did. You're not going to waste precious time and effort to share broken/fake/misleading files. Now with the huge amount of programs.....the high speeds and easy access to the world........its all gone to hell. Now instead of enjoying the experience......u gotta watch out for spyware/trojans/worms/misc. viruses/fakes/lopped mp3/pops&squeaks in songs/big compamy's tryin to slap you down/progs going bankrupt/ppl being sued....greedy label bastards/community server raids(fbi...police...nsa whatever) when does it end????

funny but as someone whos been filesharing for 3 years or so i have to say i may have d/l a few fakes when i first started but i really cannot remember tha last timei loaded a file that was not what it claimed to be and thats not just using verified sigdat files

theres alot of reasons some are for people dont know what it really is or its a code name that them and there friends know to get that exact file. to piss people off, to give people virus, it all depends there isnt just one reason. Solution sigdat2.
