View Full Version : Slow Downloads Fast Uploads?

This is weird. I have not been able to download a single file at a rate of over 1kb/s. However, people routinely connect and I upload at my maximum speed which is 12kb/s.
Is it possible that my ISP is doing something? Am I configured incorrectly?
I have been using the program for several months (lite version) and I haven't gotten an acceptable dl speed yet.
Any ideas?
Thanks. JD:hole

well, i'm hesitant to say that you're just not trying to get popular files because you've been using the program for several months (lite version) and I haven't gotten an acceptable dl speed yet...but try getting something SUPER popular...and see if you get some fast speeds.

Try an internet speed test like the one at http://tech.msn.com/internet/speedtest.asp
I know there is a better one, krell posted it a while ago, but I don't have the link
Let us know
BTW, what ISP do you have? some are limiting the ports commonly used by kazaa

The speedtest results that I get are commensurate with my connection approx 800 down/ 128 Up. My ISP is first step internet, in Moscow, ID.
As for file popularity, I have thought of this approach. I've tried dl'ing files by Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem as tests for popular and available files. Need I stoop to Brittany Spears?
All Slow.
Eek!
Thanks again,
JD

OUCH!!! hmmm...try changing the default port in kazaa's options...see if that helps.

Sorry if this is a newbie question, but.......what should I change it to? The port 80 alternative box is already checked.
1214 is the presently selected port.
Also, does it make any difference that I'm using a router?
thanks!

hmm any number should be fine....21 for instance...they couldn't block that one...it's for FTP. as for the router...shouldn't make any difference.

did you close and reopen kazaa after making the change?

I just went ahead and did that, but we're still in the decimal point realm on all of the transfers that I have going.

Many thanks for your help. I'll hang in there. Ooh here's an idea.
I have a bud who uses the same ISP - he experiences the same problem. Perhaps we should try to share an unpopular file with each other to rule out internet speed issues.

you could try that BUT i highly doubt you would find each other on the network...there was a previous thread on that particular subject, link below, that may be of interest to you.
Also, since you said he has similar problems and is on the same ISP, it's almost undoubtedly something they are doing, and i'm not sure what you can do to bypass that.

This is maybe a silly idea and you've tried it already maybe but lower your upload speed cuz with some providers you have a shitty download/upload ratio. When I (cable) set my upload speed to max. I can hardly download anything too.

not a bad idea at all!! *smacks himself with a dead fish for not coming up with it first*
EDIT: it's a bad habit of mine...i always forget about the most obvious solutions...and 99.925% of the time...it's the right one.

You could try using k++ or the original kazaa highest version....although i recommend staying away very away....but if it works better just add diet k to it to sterilize it
