I got a 30 gig Nomad Jukebox. Best deal these days is probably the Nomad Jukebox 2. If I'd buy something else though, I'd get Apple's iPod; it's by far the nicest player out there. With 20 gigs it's just a bit too small for my purposes.

Well i as well as any magazine, would reccomend the Apple iPod, 10 GB is for a normal user, 5 for a newbie, and 20 for the real ZP member. Its simply the best choice out there, and now its available on Windows. What does everybody else think?

well best is either the ipod, or the new nomad mp3 player which was created to compete ith the ipod(Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen). i currently have a rca lyra 1080, before that i had a rca k@zoo 1060, and before that i has a rio one. so im on my third, i can currently get about 60 amazing sounding tracks on 128kb i put mp3pro vbrs. so i dont really need gigs because id prob put all my mp3s on a 10 gig ipod since i have about 2050 mp3's.

i have had an ipod for over a year now. it is great. some people might avoid it because they need a firewire card, but they are cheap now and the transfer speeds are amazing

lol... why to get an apple ipod? bc its simply better. i've had mine for about 6 months, and never had a problem with it. the biggest downside is having to use musicmatch jukebox, but hey, an ipod was meant for apple, not windows. im just happy they made it.

you dont have to use musicmatch. you can use ephpod, xplay, or othe rprograms to copy music to (or from) your ipod.

right now, i have a TDK mojo, which is an MP3-cd/music CD player. its pretty cool, but i dont really like having to take multiple CDs with me, plus the batery length sux. 2 NiMH AAs give me about 7-8 hours. thats pathetic. i wanted an ipod for christmas, but no such luck. im thinking about getting somthing new, but not exactly sure what. i dont need that much space... 5gigs would be enough, but im sure it would fill up soon.... im thinking somthing in the 10gb range. what should i go for? ipod is too expensive... $400? its nice, but i dont need it that bad.

well i have a nomad jukebox that i wanna sell. i dont really wanna sell it on ebay, i might have to tho. id prefer to sell it to someone in person, rather than dealin with all the ebay shmack. anyways, why is the ipod so much better than teh zen. they are PRACTICALLY the same size. whats so great about it.

The iPod would be my choice also

-Its faster
-Overall gets better reviews
-Slick interface
-Easy to read screen
-Great maneagement software built into the player, which makes finding a song easy
-Large screen size in relative terms

I've heard rumors about an 80gig Ipod coming out soon, that would be the ultimate, but I assume it will be around a grand knowing apple

wesr
January 19th, 2003, 01:32 PM
ok what do u mean by faster. also the zen has 20 gigs for the price of the 5 gig ipod. im thinkin i might buy the zen, but im still thinkin about whether to shell out a few more bucks for the ipod. i mean im only 15 so i mean $400 for 10 gigs is a lot

i have the same player as wesr i like it but its too bulky and the battery life is poor does the ipod or zen have better battery life?

wesr
January 19th, 2003, 01:50 PM
yea joil, i agree, the jukebox is bulky and poor battery life. thats why im sellin it. they both have over 10 hours of battery life. but i cant decide which one to buy. i mean the 5 gig is enough for me, i have about 2 gigs of music, but 20 gigs is basicallyy insurance that u wont run out. in the ipod and zen, are the batteries built in, or can u remove them to replace them in case they go bad? i heard the ipod's is built in, but i dunno. i might shell out another $100 to buy the 10 gig ipod. not sure yet. im gonna go to best buy and look at em both

for me i think the zen would be better as i dont have a firewire card and i dont plan on buying one and the battery life is better on the zen. now the question is how much will it cost in the uk

The iPod is better then the Zen in soooo many ways:

- It is easier to navigate and find songs with its touch-sensitive scroll wheel (extremely cool to use)

- It's smaller (the iPod's size is JUST small enough for me to be tolerable. I used to have a mini-disc player and that was tiny. Anything bigger then the iPod and I woulda been put off carrying it around)

- The firewire connection is super-fast (if you don't have a firewire connection on your PC, it only costs around £20)

- It looks more stylish (just my opinion, but most people would agree)

- Its so simple to use. There is a total of 5 buttons on the iPod and the scroll wheel - all set out nicely (as opposed to the Zen)

- The iPod has a back-lit screen (I don't know whether the Zen has or not...)

The only significant thing against the iPod is it's price. The fact is - if your in the market for a hard-drive based MP3 player and can afford it, then get an iPod.

ok, i think u guys have me sold on the ipod. but i have a question...i read somewhere that neither creative or apple can replace the battery if it goes bad. it isnt removable, but i heard that they cant replace it even at their repair place!!!! WTF!!! ok one last thing, is the ipod as buggy on windows as people say it is. i heard that it isnt as good on windows. i also heard that u dont have to use musicmatch. what are some alternatives

wesr
January 19th, 2003, 04:28 PM
so i just read that the ipod battery is replacable, and the zen's isnt(not good). is that true? and i just forgot what else i was gonna ask...ill say it when i remember

phalkon30

When I was reffering to speed, I meant transfer speed, firewire is superior to USB, even to USB 2.0, you just have to have the port, if you don't, get a $10 or $20 card, you can afford it if you own an iPod

wesr
January 19th, 2003, 07:05 PM
well i know that there is a firewire version of the zen, but i think u convinced me on ipod. i found out that the zens battery doesnt come out, so u can replace it!!! WTF!!! anyways, thanx for all ur help. BTW, does best buy purchase used electronics. i was wondering if i could sell my old one to them for like credit to an ipod.

ok one last question. the zen has a Lithium Ion battery. now i know that those are the kind in laptops and u can charge the battery whether it be half full, 3/4 full, or empty, and it wont ruin the battery. the ipod has a lithium polymer battery, is that the same thing?"

phalkon30
January 20th, 2003, 06:37 AM
No, they are not the same thing, to find out more about the advantages/disadvantages, go to http://www.powerpulse.net/powerpulse/archive/aa_080601a1.stm

i read it and it really didnt answer my question. can u charge the lithium polymer battery when its half way or 3/4 full without ruining it.

nasrules
January 20th, 2003, 08:51 AM
id say either a 10 or 20gb ipod or a 20gb creative zen.

wesr
January 20th, 2003, 09:08 AM
yea i think im gonna shell out another 100 and buy the 10 gig ipod. even tho im 15, i mean its hard to get that much money, but i have a job so..........

whats the best place to sell used electronics. like does best buy purchase used electronics. i am gonna sell my onld nomad jukebox. i dont really wanna selll it on ebay, too much of a hassle. im gonna try and find someone who wants to buy it in person.

I brought my iPod from eBay. Not necessarily saying that you should, but as I'm from the UK, doing so saved me £85.

If you've got questions about the iPod - take a trip to the forums @ http://www.ipodlounge.com - they've answered everything that I've thrown at them so far...
