Just wanted to point you guys in the direction of Negativeland, and organization fighting the RIAA and other injustices in the music business. Read, for example, the excellent article "The Problem with Music" by Steve Albini

http://www.negativland.com/albini.html

And basically anything else at their website:

just wanted to point you in the direction on negativland. a band running against grains before they they were grains on the internet.

i haven't caught up with them lately, but i'm sure they'd be far away fromthe riaa.

yeah:) What are they really foremost? A band or a lobby-group or something else? I haven't really figured it out. They make records, but are they supposed to be musical records or just pain-in-RIAA's-ass-records? Haven't figured that out either..

Good article.

That proves that the RIAA is a sultan figure, Makin hard cash off of talents and music of others

that was a good article.

negativland are primarily a band. their practical joking, sample filled music got them into trouble with the riaa a while ago(see "the U2 singles", & "these guys are from england & who gives a shit"). they were nearly sued out of existence & so have developed a poor attitude regarding the powers that be in record industry. it's good to see they are staying active with their web-site.

another good negativland controversy is documented in "helter stupid" in which they explain how their song "christianity is stupid" was blamed for some midwest kid chopping up his family with an axe.

edit: the 2 main u2 singles can be found here :http://www.negativland.com/audiogadgets.html
