I'm using K++ 2.0.2 and it worked fine for a while but now when I start it up it immediately runs my system resources up to 100%. I've searched through the threads to find an answer to this and haven't seen one. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
I'm using a P4, 1.5gh processor with 1024 mb of RDRAM on a DSL connection. It's a fast machine and shouldn't be hanging up like that. It only happens when I run K+++

How many files you sharing? Try reducing them and maybe it'll stop doing that!

It didn't occur to me that would make a difference. I'll try that. I was trying to be generous and share lots of files (almost 20gb). I'll try reducing it and see what happens. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, Kazaa's stupid, it can't handle loading that many files.

I tried reducing my shared files from 600 to 60 and then even reduced to just 1 shared file. I tried reducing traffic to 1 up and 1 down. None of this helped. Almost immediately when I start up KazaaLite my CPU usage goes up to 100%. Kazaa is using 98% of my CPU. As soon as I shut it off my CPU usage goes right back to normal. I'm not having a problem with memory… just CPU. Any other idea what could be causing it?
Thanks for the help!

true, kazaa eats much memory (on my pc 13-15 % according to the task manager), but 98 per cent is unnormal. don't know what's causing the prob on your pc. but usually the memory load can be reduced by stopping the searches in the search window (autosearchmore) and in the traffic window (kazap - switch it off if you are downloading files with many sources; switch it on, but increase the time between searches for rare files).

with kazaa running, go to tools, click options, and then the advance tab. make sure you have check the "do not operate as a supernode" box. good luck.

I did all those things and the problem is still there. I even uninstalled the program and reinstalled it and the same thing is happening. I have plenty of memory but the CPU is running at 100%. Without Kazaa running the CPU is using about 1-4%. I have XP and the priority in task manager is set at normal.
I checked the "do not operate as a supernode" box.
I don't see any setting for auto search more. I'm not even doing any searching. It's just downloading partially downloaded files. Also, I don't see anything about Kazap.
Sorry to be such a dipstick but this is really driving me nuts now.

I figured it out! I had 194 partially downloaded .dat files in my download folder. (DUH!) It was trying to search for and find all of those files at once. When I removed all but a few of them everything went back to normal. It makes perfect sense now. I wish I'd known this to begin with.
I know what you're all thinking... stupid newbie. :-) Well, everyone is new at some time.
Thanks TONS for all your help and for being patient with the "Dumb Newbie".
