You heard it here first folks, DALnet is dead. The DDoS Attacks finally got it.

no, DALnet is not dead, i've been connecting to it for 5 years now maybe more, dalnet will never die, they allways do this, they may be down for a day tops

I noticed that too, but their kline support page (http://kline.dal.net/) is still up. Who knows, only time will tell.

hmmm im on DALnet just now uploading to a couple of users...it has been hard to connect these past few days though......

DDoS stands for Distributed Denial of Service. An example would be many clients sending requests to a server thereby consuming it's ability to handle legitimate traffic.

I remember I wasn't able to connect for about a week about a month ago. I gave up after that. They're still having problems. Damn. I remember I used to use their network all the time about a year ago. Since then, Undernet became my fave. Now, I don't really mess with IRC all that much anymore. Still, it sucks to see them having so many problems.

I honestly don't think they're going to keep going much longer from the looks of things. I seriously doubt any other IRC network has taken this much sustained abuse with the exception of maybe Undernet at one time. DALnet's servers are dropping like flies and either going to other networks or just completely shutting down, I'm not much of a fan of DALnet really but I do have alot of friends I talk to on there every few days and it sucks when the entire network is down like it has been often lately. No clue who's doing this or why, but it's pretty obvious some people really want DALnet to close down and die

It's really sad.

Anyone who knows about dos attacks knows it's not too hard to write custom attack node software. I suspect a group of porn site operators have organized this particular attack because some of the most popular channels on danlet were xxxpasscracks etc.
