If you have WMP 7, you definitely should because there is a huge increase in stability and speed. If you have WMP 8, its not that much of an improvement unless you want a slicker interface and slightly better performance on higher end machines if you have one. Most people seem to like it, as do I. Give it a shot either way, if you ask me. Its loading up the fastest out of any WMP on my machine (733 P3 256MB)

Although the high quality VBR encoding of LAME is unmatched, WMP 9S works to put WMP back into the spotlight. You can rip tracks into a variety of C/VBR bitrates, with MP3 decoding allowed via plugins.
Also, WMP 9S aims to deliver a higher quality sound through use of third-party plugins that deliver digital surround sound from stereo sources or that enhance/tweak equalizer settings.
Also, WMP 9S is the only app that can play shows recorded on a Media Edition PC (.asf). This is basically a container for a nonstandardized MPEG stream. Handy if you have friends with Media Edition.

loaded easily, nice up-grade. my only concern is what MS has in store for us in the future with screening and restrcting content. so far, so good.

I agree w/ all the positive comments posted here, I don't use WMP much, only for video, but it is definitely more sleek and quick to upgrade; I like the ability to change the color sheme, not sure if that was in WMP8, but i think its new

As someone mentioned, WMP 9S does feature a color changing scheme which MS deems the "palette shifter."
And, as long as you uncheck the box that protects media and check the box that acquires media licenses automatically, you'll be fine.

no wmp9 is not spyware, MS would be sued even more if it was. no they can't hack ur computer, but disable the options which allows MS products to phone home if u r worried.
and yes its much better than wmp8 so get it.
ps i love how microsoft have acutally made the extra codecs available within Windows Update.
