well your friend is right about kazaa having spyware, etc. you should get k-lite or k-lite++ at www.k-lite.tk
also, you can remove the spyware using Ad-aware or SpybotS&D

To check and get rid of any.. download AdAware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) and Spybot (http://security.kolla.de/). I don't think Spybot is free so you may want to look on KaZaA Lite (under software) for an evaluation copy *wink*.
Good luck.
EDIT: Also. To find out what spyware is, click here (http://www.zdnet.com/zdhelp/stories/main/0,5594,2612053,00.html).

Spyware :
In general, spyware is any technology that aids in gathering information about a person or organization without their knowledge. On the Internet, spyware is programming that is put in someone's computer to secretly gather information about the user and relay it to advertisers or other interested parties. Spyware can get in a computer as a software or as the result of installing a new program. Data collecting programs that are installed with the user's knowledge are not, properly speaking, spyware, if the user fully understands what data is being collected and with whom it is being shared.

i haven't tried zonealarm. but i used to use ad-aware, and now i'm using spybot. i'd recommend spybot.

When you download KaZaA Lite ++, you also get a small program names Sig2Dat. Read up on that with the link I provided in my earlier thread to learn exactly how it works.
The main objective of the program is to allow you to click a link at one of the sites I mentioned and it will automatically start downloading when you restart KaZaA Lite ++. This can be quite helpful when trying to find a movie instead of some misnamed file that you just spent 2 hours downloading.
The only pop ups you may see will be from the website itself. You will not get any other pop ups from the actual downloading or playing the movie. ( unless someone embedded a link in the movie).

Before you delete the spyware that SpyBot/Ad-aware detects, you should first try to uninstall it through the Add/Remove Programs first then clean up their leftover tracks with those mentioned programs. Because if you just delete what they detect, it'll still show on your Add/Remove Programs list & you'll receive an error that it is not there.
